450R is only a month old and already $hit falling off....
#1
Ok well that sounds worse than what it is, but I hope my "normal luck" isn't comming back to me.... (see sig) But anyway, I was riding with my cousin and shut my 450R off to take a break. After we were done talking and stuff we were gonna be on our way. Went to give it a kick to fire it up and the kick starter fell off.... I was like WTF! I realized the top bolt was gone out of the kick starter where it pivots (not the bolt that goes into the case, the one above it) and the spring and pivot ball flew out in the tall grass along with the kick starter. so I got it to start and went home. Well it's obvious that Honda didn't take the time to lock tight anything on this this quad. I don't mean to sit here and complain about $3.00 worth of parts but it's only a month old and there is no reason for things like this happening. I called the dealer today after school and Honda wont warrenty anything that falls off the quad, which isn't a big deal to me but it's still the principle of the situation. I mean what if something like this happend and it cost $300 instead of $3.00? Would they warrenty it then? I sure the hell hope they would because I'm not gonna get stuck with something like this again, like my DS650 was.... Again I don't mean to complain about $3.00 worth of parts BUT What if this was something in the motor that came loose and destroyed it? Then what? Would that be warrentied? I payed $760 extra for a 4 year extended warrenty for these reasons. I just hope these things wont progress into bigger problems like my DS650 did. May be I'm just over reacting, but I feel I can. I spent $7000 on a quad and it's a month old and I already have my first problem, not that it's serious by any means. I'm just a little worried about things progressing and Honda not warrentying anything. And I don't mean to sound like a lil b!tch here but with my previous luck with things I do worry more than normal about it. little things like this once and a while wont bother me much but it's got me concerned about future problems..... Sorry about going on and on.... what's your $.02 about it?

There have been several posts warning about this. Surprised you missed them.
For the rest of you, just use a little locktite. Walk out to the garage and do it NOW!

Hey you little complaining bitch .... just kidding.
Don't worry, little things like ths can happen. They failed to grease the stearing bushing in my wifes bike and it was hard to steer. When I took it in for my 20 hour check they fixed it with no problem and no charge - maybe 25 cents worth of grease but a little labor too. To show you how much dealers differ - the closest one to me wanted $180 PER EACH ATV (I have 2) for the 20 hour check - the other 30 miles furthrer away did them both for $205 TOTAL. I've gone into the closest dealer and left items I wanted to buy on the counter because no one would stop to take my money. I've seen things like this handled differently dealer to dealer so don't always think you have to go back to that dealer if they brush you off. But don't worry them or yourself if you can easily fix it yourself.
You might have a loose nut here and there but I'm sure they (Honda) will stand behind any problem - don't press the issue on a small item like you had there, save your energy for something worth pressing them on, if that ever occurs. You've heard the saying - "pick you battles". You got a good product and like any piece of machinery things little and big can go wrong and Honda is just as good as anyone if not better than the rest to stand behind their product. Their dealers are not always the sharpest knives in the drawer. If they had any sense at all they would have valued your business and told you to bring it on by and taken the 2 minutes to fix it warranty or not and you would likely have said no problem you'll fix it and everyone would have been happy. Some of these dealers are really arrogant and what they tell customers never suprise me.
So, don't ruin your good time riding.worrying about something that may never happen in the first place and they will most likely take care of it if it did in the second.

I could see them not replacing that part because who is to say you (or another customer) didnt take that bolt out and just didnt tighten it enough. Generally in a motor if it was reassembled incorrectly it is noticable and that is where their/your responsibility comes into play.

This sounds like a common problem with the 450R.
A guy I go riding with bought one about six months ago. He said everytime he goes out he finds a bolt or two missing or loose.
The only problem I have had with my Baja X is a blown tail light bulb. Have yet to find any loose bolts.

As recon said, this has been covered a million times. The heat shield bolts on the pipe are next. They did loctite alot of stuff, obviously you have not been into the head yet.
Petty **** to say the least.
You should be nut and bolting your quad once a month at least anyway.
Trust me Honda will warranty your REAL problems. This is not a real problem, and if they clogged up the warranty channels with this type of problem, people with bigger problems would suffer. Its good business.
Whats your deductable anyway? I bet its more than $3.00

BS. I've had mine since March, rode the **** out of it and the only thing that has happened is that same screw came loose, ONCE. Mention one thing and the Know nothings all pile on.....
