Default Largest Dirt Drag event in the midwest yesterday

Did anyone else from Atv Connection show up for this event yesterday in Janseville Wi.? I believe there were just over 300 entries this time around for the dirt drags. Double elimination heads up racing. I entered the following:
class 9 : 500 and up 2 & 4 stroke unlimited open. (3rd place)
class 11: 700 and up unlimited 4 stroke open (1st place, 0 losses)
class 13: 0 - 700 2 & 4 stroke limited open ( 1st place, 0 losses)
class 22: 500 - 700 4 stroke mod, limit 2 cylinders ( 1st place, 0 losses)

The track was extremely slick. All of the big dogs in the open classes, are the same guys that attend most of the drags in our area. Ive been gunning for 2 specific individuals that I was able to take out this time around. Thats all that matters. Ive recently swithced to run Marvin Shaws competition shocks in the front, along with a custom strut for the plus 8 swingarm in the rear. I believe this gave me the little edge I needed to get in front of these guys.

Thanks to the HPR motor. In class 13, I had to run 6 runs back to back without ever stopping or even killing the motor. It pulled just as hard on the 6th pass as it did on the first. Thats alot of heat built up. Especially as hot as it was yesterday. All in all, it was a great day of racing, and I couldnt have been happier with the outcome.

Way to REPRESENT Gary , congrats! With credit to my newly installed endcap & air filter from HPResearch, I picked up a win(my first on the DS) Saturday evening on a 200' damp clay track in the 401-700 'stock' class that allowed ONLY air filter & slip-on exhaust changes . Trouble I'd been having locally is that promoters don't have a stock class and they allow 'bumping up' to bigger cc class so I was racing very-modded, tricked-out, high $ 400s & 450s more often than lightly modded Raptors & V-Forces. Got some info on a nearby event coming up next Sunday & their stock class means 'pure stock' so I either switch back to stock filter & endcap or suffer the 'full' mod versus bolt-on handicap against ANY 4-stroke up to 700cc. Yes, I know changing the endcap & filter can be done quickly and should be easy to get done between classes, but I just have the list of classes NOT in running order. If they happen to run 700cc class right after stock I could have as little as 2 minutes to change. I'll make sure to get there early & see how it plays out. Oh how I wish all the promoters in s.e. Indiana could get together and standardize their rules, but I know they're just trying to accomodate the majority of their regular competitors. I've also developed a bit of a problem with promoters who regularly dominate some classes at their own events, but are rarely seen at other promoters' events. Sorry if it sounds like I'm grousing, but I'm so inexperienced at quad dirt drags that I'm struggling to to learn. It's all good & always fun, but if any of you seasoned racers can pass along advise/hints/suggestions/help I'm listening

Craneman dont worry about the filter, they will probably never check it any way. If they do you can claim its a stock aftermarket replacement because the outside of a DS filter is foam!

Are there any other DS's racing with you, if not you may be able to get away with the billet end cap in stock class. It is a stock pipe after all.

I used to run pure stock class and I made a "look alike" stock end cap that had all the baffling gone and the two pipes were slightly larger. It made 1.5hp more that the stock end cap on the dyno. Nobody ever noticed.

I don't know Eric. I have the rules for this event coming up Sunday afternoon already in hand. Rule #15 reads "Stock classes mean STOCK! No pipes,air filters or anything that enhances the bike's performance. No modifications to air box, spark arrestor, or carb. Top 3 will be teched". With my kind of luck, I can put the stock filter & endcap back on, place 3rd, then get d/qed because I've replaced the 165 jet with 170 . Regardless, if I should happen to get my spare intake back from porting Friday or Saturday I WILL try to have it installed for Sunday , even if it means skipping taking the 'other' quad to a nearby pulling contest Saturday . Since I got the X last October, I've only seen another (but red) DS twice at events & didn't get to talk to the rider either time but believe it was the same guy both places. Heck, it's so hard to predict who & what will show up for the litle local events close to me - they might not get enough sign-ups for a 'pure' stock class to even have that class, or it could consist of all utes in which case I'd feel bad even running against them. The guy I've butted heads with for 2 years now in both drags & mud races is bound to be there with his V-Force & new Brute Force. Bill & I have almost always ran 1 & 2 in mud races, with me & the DS only able to beat him & the V-Force once . Dragging on our utes, I couldn't touch the Prarie he just traded in - but my DS is so close to his V-Force(with wheelie bar) it makes him nervous . I guess I could check around local welding shops to see if any of them would fab a wheelie bar for the DS for cheap if I put their name & phone# on the fenders. btw/ you still have/using that 'look-alike' ?

Country,

Thats a custom plus 8 swingarm we built. 9.2 lbs.

222,

My 2 kids have confiscated all my plaques and trophies from this season for their rooms. LOL Next month. (october) is my last ride or race for the season. You will be getting my motor again shortly after. That machine will be 300 lbs. next spring. Hopefully with a 80 plus hp to move her along. wink wink, hint, hint.

Gary
