Default brute force- big horn radials Vs. atr's?

What are peoples opinions on either one or both of these tires? I have a 700 prairie with the ATR's and love them. I was just thinking the big horns would give a little better traction. I am not a big mud rider, with most of my riding being in the mountains hillclimbing and trail riding. I love the ride and handling of radials and won't go back to biased ply tires. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

I'm sure the Big Horns would be a tad tougher ( & lots heavier )... IMO, don't overlook the new Carlysle Bad Lands radials... IMO, they fall nicely between the 2 tires you mentioned, offering more general trail traction ( except on hard pack ), than the ATR's, & weigh less than the Big Horns... If looks mean anything though... Maxxis does make the most awesome looking tires...

You really have two very different styles of tires your comparing and because all of our riding differs so much what works for one, may not for another? The Big Horn Radials are more of a racers tire, and are designed for rough conditions and durability. Because of a thicker rubber compound and heavy duty radial carcass it will offer 100% better side wall protection. But are going to be much heavier tires and even those they also offer a very nice ride, they may not handle as well for some as the ATRs or Badlands. The ATR's, Like the Badlands that were originally made for Polaris, Are both designed simply for ride quality. Ive ridden on the ATR's and they acheved there goal of making a very good handling tire Im sure the badlands are basicly the same. Being there both made by the same manufacture. Where most of our gang rides they were doing a lot of pluggin, So even those there good, they just didnt hold up all that well. I think If the tire is working for you and your happy with it along trying the badlands they should be something to stick with. I think in that same class of what I would call a Lite radial tire, The Ohtsu Radials are ones to try as well. They came stock on the Honda Rincon and unlike the other radials, The Ohtsu did win the Baja! Ive seen the ohtsus along with the badlands being sold on ebay. A lot of new quad buyers dont always know what they got and jump to BIG mud tires, giving you the oppertuneity to pick them up cheap online? Just somnething to maybe look into? ~coop

I just bought a new set of 26" ATR'S for my Brute. I had them on my prevoius quad and I can tell you be careful
on and around rocks, the sidewalls are very weak! Other than that they handle better than most tires
that I have used, and they hook up in any terrain.
