I've seen original bikes going for about $2000 in great shape. I would think that a restoration would go for a little less.
I restored an 86 to look like a race bike and have about $6000 in the bike including all new plastics, swingarm, bearings, etc, etc, etc. I know that even in this shape, that the motor is worth the most...probably $2500 to a TRX racer, but that is it.
Sad, if I broke this bike into parts, I could get more for it, but wait a couple more years. It'll gain some value. 4 Years ago I bought an 85 (great running condition) and this 86 in rough shape for $700 (for both). In 4 years, I can get $1500 for the 85, based on approximate Ebay selling prices and more for the 86. I'll ride them and wait.....until I die....they are priceless to me. You can't replace these bikes. Keep yours and use it for a conversation piece. If you are a true ATV fan, this was a critical part of history!! The only motorcycle to be BANNED!!!! 15 years later and people are still scared of them! AND you have the Granddaddy of all...the infamous 1986 ATC250R. The bike that was the predescessor to the greatest, most raced bike, even today...the TRX250R...11 years after production ceased!!! Keep it for the fun of it.
