I apparently thought I was buying an O-ring chain from rocky mountain...but it isn't. It's an RK 520 motorcycle chain. Can I run this on my banshee? Is it safe? What are the consequences of using it?

Thanks,

jason

Non O-ring chains are fine, they just wear out faster than o ring chains.

I think I would contact Rocky Mtn & inquire whether the pitch on your c/s sprocket is designed to match whatever that chain is designed for. Normally they would ask you what machine you plan to use the chain on. If you told them, then it is apparently just a standard chain, meaning it will require regular lubing, unlike an o-ring type.
The reason this type of chain wears out faster, if in fact they do, is not necessarily because of the design, but because of improper and/or infrequent lubrication.

You have to make sure you keep it lubed well. Some people say o-ring chains slow you down because of all the drag from the rings.Let us know if its any faster with the non o-ring chain.

I'm heard people saying it pulls 2-3 hp from it...but thats a myth...Depending on your quad it pulls about .4-.7 hp....which isnt anything at all...I speak from seeing dynos after dynos

Non O-ring type chains are cheaper than O-ring chains so if you paid for a O-ring chain, you've got some money due...

On another realted note...Friction is a factor, it all adds up in the big picture...
