I've been known to use gasoline, but it will eat away your filter after awhile. You can buy filter cleaner at most parts shops and dealerships.

You can buy solvent or mineral spirits at hardware stores, and after getting the oil out of the filter, wash in soapy water to remove the solvent. Let it air dry and then oil it up.

Clean filter in small container of gasoline, be careful ringing out the filter as not to tear the filter, let it air dry when clean and then oil it up like a cutie at the nudie bar.......

That's the way I do it. Don't leave the mineral spirits on it very long thou.

I simply use warm soapy water..thats all you need...gasoline/mineral spirits will stretch the foam out and less elasticity..also pick up some filter oil..PJ1 is my oil of choice.

I clean mine in a coffee can with gas. As long as you don't let it soak in the gas and wash it immediatly with Dawn dish soap and warm water it will last a long time. Just remember NEVER to twist it to ring it out. Just squeeze all the gas and oil out then wash it a couple times with the soap and water. Let it air dry completely before you use a good quality FILTER OIL. It's best to have two filters so one can dry while you put the other in and ride.

wal mart sells carb/choke cleaner in aerosol cans. thats what i use. ive found that gas adds a little bit to the air when it goes through and makes it run richer for a while. prolly just my old warrior though. they are all wasy to clean.
