Default What to do with 1993 350L?

Hi Gang, I's like your opinions about fixing an older 1993 350L4X4 .
What should a new top-end overhaul and carb rebuild cost me in the shop?
I'm quoted $800 right now, and that's really not even what I took the bike in for- not that it doesn't need it. I don't have the time to do it myself, or I'd like to tackle it.

2nd question: This bike about 75% of the time, when I put it in reverse, it does immediately and won't start in reverse, but would do fine in neutral or forward gears. What's baffling to me is that I never know when it will or will not exhibit the problem. I was hoping it was possibly a switch/electrical- Any ideas?
Thanks a bundle for the ideas!

$800 is a steep price for a topend and carb rebuild.Piston $100 gaskets $40 bore job $40+ 3-4 hr labor. The carb shouldnt run you more than $50 they have it off anyway. What else were they going to do? On the reverse limiter find the box and follow the black wire to the wiree block and unplug it this will cure your problem but you wont have a limiter in reverse and will still need to hold the button down for 4x4 in reverse.
