2000 Scrambler Tether Kill Switch
#1
Hey everyone.
I'm looking for a tether kill switch for my 2000 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4. Specifically, I need to know the following things:
1. Do I need a normally-open or normally-closed switch on this machine?
2. What specific wires do I need to splice into to make the switch work.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation BigBadScrambler... I've seen the HPD tether, but I'd like to know the basics behind a successful tether install before just buying something and having it work or not work...
I understand that some people install one wire of the switch on the coil +, and the other wire to ground. I've heard that some put one wire on the CDI box, and the other to the coil. Some people blow fuses, and some don't. I've searched the boards but haven't really seen a consistent answer.
Does anyone know specifically if I'm going to need a normally-open or normally-closed switch for my machine? And where am I going to have to connect the wires?
(my quad is a 2000 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4)
Thanks!

You need a normally open kill switch. If you have the ETC circuit on your throttle control, you can tap into the wires going to that. The easiest way to find out what color wires is to pop off the cover to your thumb throttle. There will be two wires on the left side. They are made to make contact if your throttle cable should ever stick and shut your motor down. You can connect the wires from the kill switch to them. You can use scotchlock connectors to splice into them before the plug going into the throttle housing. One wire going to each, so when you pull your rip cord it will make a closed circuit and shut it down.

Sounds cool, Jason. That sounds like an easy way to do it. I'll have to give this a try within the next week.
Thanks everyone for the information!
