Default Converting from electric to kick start on YFZ.

I found an ad at Alba for $896!!?? I know I can do it much MUCH cheaper. The new Dirt Wheels has an article on the 05 YFZ and states that it can be done for around $100. Can anyone help me w/ a link or something on how to obtain the bare minimum of parts I would need? My starter went out today and took my battery w/ it. It's under factory warranty and will be fixed (I hope) but I don't wan't to be stranded in the desert ever again. And do I NEED a hot-start button? I wouldn't think I would but you guys know more than me.

lol, ya you can do it cheaper... not sure about 100$ but prolly around 200 through yamaha... all the parts in the gyt-r kits arent needed, like the heel guards and stuff... i think you might need the hotstart.

Thanks for the reply, I just found the "essential" components on Yamaha's website. The internal guts are around $92.00 and the physical kickstart lever is $130. I am wondering why Dirt Wheels would say $100 dollars. I don't know if I have to use the $130 lever or not. I would also hope there would be directions, I'm the first one in my riding crew to have this problem and also the first to tackle the kickstart option. I'm going to research a little more. I would still appreciate any comments or advice from anybody else. Thanks again.

What I wonder about the lever is that it has to fit into and around the YFZ. They would be the only ones who have designed one and probably have the market locked up. Who knows?? Confusion. Nice bike dude.

i have heard of guys using other kickers, like from a yz250 i think. its shorter so you dont need to cut your plastic from what i hear.

I just noticed that the GYTR kicker requires you extend footwells and cut plastic. I don't mind cutting plastic but I just put these AC nerfs on and I wonder if they'll work w/ the GYTR kicker. I'm going to find out if I can use any of the YZ kickstarts. There has to be a way. Wish me luck. No more reliance on wires.
