Default Which one would be better?

I am about to begin Restoring and slighlty modifing one of my 200x's. Problem I am noticing is the parts avalibility for the 83 is much greater than that of the 86. I know the trikes are almost completly different so almost nothing will interchange. I am not going to be racing or anything other than just riding for enjoyment. Question is, would I be better off restoring the 83 instead of the 86? The 86 is in better shape and I am thinking that the 86 is more uncommon than the 83 which makes me lean on doing the 86 now and the 83 later. What do you guys think?

I'll say the 86 also, but I will give you a reason. The 86 is a little harder to find, There frames are better, 6 speed trans!!!!!!!!You can tune the bike a little better for either top speed, or you can gear it down and the 6 speed will make for a closer shifting pattern for a KILLER trail trike!

Hello, I agree with everyone above also on the 86 and also as a monetary value too......a very nice restored 86 will be worth a lot more to a collector or so on than the 83 and also......look at ebay most of the 200x's there are 83-85 and maybe 1 86 everyonce in awhile. If it were me I and I were goin to mod the 86 I would put all the original pieces up so if you ever want or have to get rid of it, it can go back stock. Same with the 83. Just my .02 and lets see some pics while your restoring which ever one you do.....Chris

Having both and riding both, I can say the 86 is hands down the better rider. If you are wanting to hop it up, the 83 will be easier to find parts for and they will be cheaper. I love my 86's and would not get rid of them for anything. Most parts are still available from Honda.

I decided to go with the 86 model, It is alot harder to find parts for but Its the only one that I have ever seen. With all of ya'll saying that its a lot less common to find an 86 rather than an 83-85 That definatly makes me want to mess with it a little more as well. Thanks for the input everyone
