Slow Kodiac
#1
Hey guys I have a 99 kodiac, and its all stock. I can get 70km top and thats screaming. So i try not to do it much but when I ride with my buddies and they all ride Hondas i dont want to be left behind. Are there any mods or upgrades that I can do to my bike to pick up some top ends, the bottom end rocks and I got lots of power for pulling out those Hondas. Any info would help Im looking to upgrade the tires on my bike and they tell me Ill lose some of my top end which will suck even more.
I DONT WANT TO LOOK AT HONDA Tail lights anymore.

My bike is a Standard so I dont think a clutch kit will do, as for a pipe. I f the bike is all ready hitting top revs how will the pipe help?? If i am mistaking where can I find a place that sells this gear??

Newfy,
Try leaving before them, that might help.HHAHAAHA..
Is the 99 a full time 4x4 or is it selectable? If it is full time then maybe you should just get used to tailing them and pulling them out as you stated.
Just how fast is 70 kilometers an hour is that(40 to45mph)?

Yeah my 99 is full time 4x4 and 70 is about 43 mph. How do you find your Mud lites thats the tire im thinking of installing. Does the 26" go on with out any mods. ie lift kit or wheel spacers???

Newfy,
I find the 26 MudLites like to rub the fender flares while going thru the ruff stuff while turning. As the tire it self is a real mud tire that does well in just about all conditions. I find the tire is wearing faster then I like but since the tire is 6 ply and the tread is closer to 2 ply, kinda like a snowmachine track where the tread gives and folds to get better grip. The tire does not like whipping 360's on the ice because it cuts and chunks the tread do to it being softer. Lots of people have said they do not have that problem but since I have two Kodiak450's identical in my shed and those tires have done the same thing so I guess it must be just my dealer that got the softer tires.
Back to the performance of the tire. Like I said it does good in most conditions I have found that sand and mud are the best use of the tire. Trail riding is very nice with no vibration and it handles on the hardpack well.
As for your Kodiak. I was wondering if Warn makes a 424 kit for some quads and you should check to see if they make one for yours since if it was in 2x4 mode you would gain some top end speed and the handling will be better, rather then muscling it around all day because the front tires are engaging while you try to turn. I do not know if they make one for yours but it would not hurt to check on it.
My tires need no spacers or kit but I do have a offset wheels that came with the tire package. The wheels are C-series by ITP.
