Hi. I had the chance to drive a 400AT for about ten min's the other day. I know 10 minutes is not a lot of time...but I had just hoped off my foreman..so I have a pretty good idea of how the two feel. In short The next wheeler I get will be the 400AT. I like some of the larger cc wheelers...but Money is always a factor for me as well. I know it is nice to have lots of cc's but there are not many things the 350-500 cc wheelers can not do. The AT felt more nimble then my foreman and did not seem to be lacking in power at all. For the money ( or on an unlimited budget ) you would be hard pressed to find a wheeler as dependable or as capable as the ranchers.

Well I would highly recommend the 400at, I bought mine new last year and have over 2700 kilometers. No problems at all. Have heard many complaints about the lack of power and that sort of things but for the trails it is a great machine. Had a 00 Rancher and put almost 9000 kilometers on it and never had a problem either, but compared to the 400 there is a huge difference. There is not a large difference in power but the handling and the tranny make all the difference in the world. The tranny is so smooth and quiet it is almost unreal and the engine braking can't be beat. In the 2 wheel drive mode on the tight twisty trails this machine is one of the best in my opinion. I don't think you will be dissappointed if you purchase this machine

I was in the market for one of these machines this last spring. I had just sold an 01 rancher 4x4 es and like the increased displacement, about 70cc, of the rancher at. What I did not like was the loss of low end power. The 350 felt more responsive and stronger in the low end of the power band. The 400 was a bit faster overall, but just a few mph. The traxlox was great, but I didnt like spending that kind of money on a barely stronger machine that I was getting rid of.
Really like the vinson, ended up with a prairie 700.

I have ridden one an liked it a lot. Not a mud machine and not a 450 in the power department, probably a lot closer to the 350 Rancher. The extra 50cc was to compensate for the auto trans. Great trail machine.

I've owned a lot of different 4 wheelers in the past 5 years and I can honestly say that the Rancher 400at was the best!! Prevously I had a '03 Prairie 360 4x4 and even w/ the differential lock it was not as good in the mud as the Rancher. My 360 had 26" Bear Claws and the Rancher had 26" Mudlites.......I also managed to roll the Rancher over in a creek and it sunk to the bottom (bout 5' deep) guess w/ those big tires it made it really easy to bring it back to the top and turn it over....and after bout 2 min of trying it started right back up and got me back home! (airbox was bout 1/2 filled up w/ water!) Can't beat a Honda!

We have had 2 ATs for about 4 months and love them. We've had 0 problems and ride pretty agressively. For utilities they have a pretty sporty ride in 2WD. I added HMF utility exhuast which made a big difference, little louder under power, but nice. If I were going to buy again in the same cc class I'd buy the same machines without thought.
