My brother just bought a new yfz 450, and i plan on getting a new troy lee pred this spring do you think stock for stock i can hang with him from low end though top end ,,knowing that the troy lee has all the new changes ??????????????????? or will he smoke my $ss????????????????????????????/

 

i hung with a 04 yfz, but he had bigger tires and he said that slowed him down. race on pavement.

 

It should be realy close stock for stock. Probably will come down to rider.

no... i do not think a simple gear change will do much for the pred... if all it took was gearing to beat a 450... then all preds owners would be doing it.

It's not a gear change, it's a whole different tanny. This will give it quicker acceleration thus making it quicker. Totally differant then changing sprockets. I believe the YFZ is a close ratio tranny to, that is why it doesn't have the top speed as the rest, but it is quick. The TLD Predator now has a close ratio tranny. It lost some top speed, but it will get there quick. At the last GNCC race, I talked to Rich Travaleno who races a Pred in the stock class. His friend got a 05 standard Pred and he raced it against his 04 piped and jetted Pred, and he said the 05 smoked it in stock form. To say the least, they were all impressed on how the 05 Standard went. The TLD should be even quicker with the tranny.

 

I thought they only changed gears 2-4? So if 5th gear was the same wouldnt it have the same top speed?

 

According to ATV Sport Mag review of the 05 Predator's, they said the TLD lost about 5mph in top speed. So this tells me that even 5th has changed.

Could just be the added pounds on it. Tops out a little slower. Weight sure does'nt help at all.

I don't think 3 lbs is going to loose speed.

They said it lost 5mph over the standard Pred which they reviewed at the same time. The standard didn't get the close ratio tranny so it's top speed is still the same.
