sportsman 700 squeeking??
#1
I recently bought a 700 MO and last night while hauling out a deer I noticed a squeeking. It is only when you let off the throttle at about the 1-2 mph roll before you stop. Sounds like it could be in the clutch. I put it in neutral and rev it up and it does the same thing when it is at low rpm. It is a intermittent chirp chirp chirp. I thought I would throw this out here before hauling it to the dealer. Seems like the guys on here know more than the dealers anyways. So here goes guy lets hear it?????

if what your describing is not the typical clutch rattle/slap/clunk sound but an actual squeek/slip sound try taking the redplug out of the clutch/belt cover to drain any water out that may be in there. let it air dry or blow compressed air into the hole. my dealer told me that after a ride in mud/water it is good to take the plug out and let the belt dry off, this may be what is causing the squeek is the water on the belt. try it, it only takes a minute to take the plug out and if there is nothing in there it didn't cost ya anything right?

no problem thats what were all here for. may sound funny but I hope you find water behind the plug so you know if it's the culpret or not.
by the way welcome to the forums, hope to see ya posting again soon.

I checked the red plug, found it and removed the screw and nothing came out I even stuck a screwdriver up a little ways to see if it was clogged and nothing and it still squeeks. It seems to squeek when the throttle is barely pressed or depressed. Not a throttle cable issue or anything it is definitely a noise from the engine or caused by the engine. Maybe something rubbing somewhere. Any more ideas?? I dont wanna tear into a machine with only 10 hrs on it. Thanks in advance!

ya know another thing I remember on my 700 EFI is a squeeky/rattle sound which is being caused by the exhaust flange springs and the head pipe when I tip in the throttle a bit. just a thought.

Ok, I will give that a checkout tonight after hunting. I appreciate the help in finding this. I dont think it affects the performance of this machine but it sure will drive a man crazy!!

Mine does it when going down just about any hill against the gears. I figured it was the belt getting hot. Mind you I really tend to pamper it and go slow down hills. 3 months old and only 9.6 hrs. As with the guy above, I wasn't going to get too worried about it for a while. It also has the godwaful rattling, clanking noise in the front end when going down hills so common with this machine. Both of the noises go away as soon as I give it power. Folks in the next county probably hear both noises.

yeah i got the same sound on my 500 sounds like a little bird or chimpmunk or somethin hard to explain. it has to do with your secondary clutch when it is letting off your belt after the engine brakin
