will 27-9-12 and 27-12-12's fit on a stock 2004 sportsman 500 h.o.? (stock rims, stock everything)

also, what might be the largest tire that will fit stock?

thanks.

rdg...

27's on stock rims/everything just ain't going to happen. Other mods will be necesary for tire clearence. The problems you'll run into with "stock everything" are the fenders and tie rod ends. Stock rims do not have enough offset to allow the larger tires without major rubbing on the tie rods, and the trailing edge of the fender will rub as well when you turn. You "may" get away with just pulling the footrests back IF you went with different rims.

I recently did a 04.5, 500HO with 26's and ITP rims. With the addition of 700 springs on the front end. This combo has worked out GREAT! I've punished this quad and have yet to get ANY rubbing..... Check out my pics and see what you think.

I can't help you on your last question. All my tire swaps have included wheels.... sorry. I'll guess, maybe 26's, but someone else will have to confirm that....

I just did 26" ITP 589's on stock rims. There is about 3/8 clearance on the front struts- with 4.5 pounds pressure. Rears are fine. No rubbing anywhere but I have yet to ride anything really serious.By the way my bike is a 99 Sp 500.

From what I have found... 27's with ITP wheels on a stock suspended 700EFI will fit on the rear, no problems. BUT... unless you move the footrest back, up front, you will get rubbing. Even then, with the ultra soft stock front springs, you may experience some rudding when the suspension is at full compression. Wheel spacers may work too, but I personally have never tried them...

The fix: An extra inch or so of height in the front end. The mod: I've used aluminum spring spacers with great success. Not only did I get a little height (1" to 2" depending on the spacer) the added preload on the springs was just what the doctor ordered. Looks cool too!!! I've looked into getting a set of custom coils but found this method not very cost effective. Due to the spring profile and progressive windings, custom springs would be spendy to say the least.

My next research project for the 700s is going to be possible parts swaps from the new 2005 800. It's said to more travel than the 700s so there may be something cookin' there as soon as parts become available... Possibly in the spring of 2005....

hey thanks, so 27's will fit if I lift the front up with a spring spacer? do you have pics of the ones you've used and where did you get them. how about the pure polaris spring spacer will they do the trick or do I have to get thicker ones. the only mods I really want to do to be completely happy with my 700EFI are to add the 27's with the black Delta X wheels(with lift kit or spring spacers), add a pure polaris silencer, and I think it would be cool to have the herculiner/linex liner put on the composite racks and wrinkle finished extender rails like on the camo.

Hi Sigarms229....

A 229, eh? I'm sportin' a 226 custom in .40 S&W for personal carry. Couldn't be happier!!

Anyway... I'm not to familiar with the 500HO's yet. We just got our first about a month ago and haven't had a whole lot of time on it yet. BUT... If you use 25's, I see no reason they wouldn't fit. You may need spacers or some washers behind the wheel for tie rod clearence, but I can't tell you for sure...

Any 500HO experts out there want to chime in on this one?

Cool. Gotta love Sigs. I have a 229 that started as .40 (back about 1995) but now wears a .357sig barrel and I have a 226 9mm. I've recently downsized my collection considerably and those are the two I decided to keep. Actually I dont even carry the 229 much anymore, been carrying a Kimber ProCarry II for the past 2 years. The screen name sigarms229 has just stuck with me so I used it here. (use that screen name on Glocktalk.com and sigforum.com

Also, like the idea of your 700 springs on the 500 but I'm not that technically inclined to pull something like that off. Just not comfortable enough about suspension components to tear apart my front end.
