OK Guys, Where's the Weight and the 2005 Suzuki King Quad?
#1
As many of you know I have been waiting to get a 2005 Sportsman 500. My friend has a 2004.5 and I really like it.
Another friend who lives far away from me got a 2005 Suzuki King Quad and says at 600# it's sporty and has no mechanical problems so far. He asks me why I would want a quad that's 100# heavier.
I personally don't mind the extra weight.
Here are the questions:
1. I can't imagine where the polaris puts the extra 100#. Where is it?
2. I don't mud, so are there any advantages to the extra weight? What are the disadvantages?
3. Anyone have any seat time on a 2005 Suzuki King Quad? If so, how does it compare?
Thanks.

1. Dunno where the beef is. Maybe the chassis/suspension - Polaris is built double tough, Suzuki typically uses a lightweight tubular chasis.
2. I see no disadvantages to the extra weight. I don't think anybody would notice it and I fail to see why such importance is placed on it. I believe it does make for a more stable vehicle overall with exceptional pulling capability.
a. I looked at the KQ spec sheet, and it does say 602lbs dry. I'm not so sure that is accurate. The 4x4 Eiger 400 is only a few lbs lighter .....
3. No seat time on the KQ - can't help you there ....

No seat time in th King but my 115 # wife at 5'4" has no problem with the 500 sp.
It's the 2005 model and she loves the ride and power.
God I love her! If
she really wants to go faster ,she hopes on th 05 scrambler 500 and she's GONE

Have a look at the polaris frames...there is way more metal in the polaris machines which in my opinion makes them way tougher.Plus they have great built in skid plates and good all- around undercariage protection. If I spend 7 to 10 g's on a machine thats got a a huge engine like that , do I really worry about a measely 100 pounds, no . I actaully want that extra beefy stuff on there, I mean...I did get this machine to go places that I know is going to beat it up. And 600 or 700...Its only 100 pounds extra....not a big difference for a 2500 pound winch anyway . Thats my opinion....

My KQ wet weighs 645lbs. With 25" Maxxis Bighorns on C-series rims it will be 702lbs. Then when front and rear bumpers and skids come, it should be around 750lbs wet. When my SP800 comes in, I plan on doing a shootout with the two set up with the same tires and rims to make things equal.

Answer to your weight ? Better parts.
Look, I think that Suzuki is a great quad - I just think the Polaris is better. You will have to look close to see for yourself.

One disadvantage I've found to the extra weight is a frind rolled his SP700 last week and was trapped underneath the heavyweight. I have never seen it take so many riders to pull an ATV off of someone. I mean it took like 3 of us to get it off of him the way he was wedged under it. He broke his leg out of the deal BTW would a hundred pounds less helped that fact probably not, but maybe if we had one less person it might have been a problem getting the mule off of him :/
