looking to buy a snowplow, need your input

Hello all,
I recently own a 2004 Polaris 600, I now want to get a snowplow.
I know I want a 48 inch blade (straight) and thinking about the electric switch for adjusting the blade etc.
My local dealer quoted me $550.00 for just the parts. That seemed way high! Like $200.00 to high!
What do you guys think? and any suggestions on aftermarket? and how much should a guy really spend on a plow?
Thanks in advance for your input.

I put the Glacier Plow on my SP 400 last year and it worked great. I went with the 60 in model so when the plow is angled I'm not driving in the snow. I have a winch so I don't really know about the electric lift. Go with the 60 in model you have plenty opf machine for it. My drive way isn't that big only about 165 feet but it is up hill and I can push snow up the driveway without a problem, you will be surprised. Good luck. I think I paid $450.00 for the plow, frame and mounting plate at the local dealer.

Cycle country is the way to go........they are easy and fast to take off(like under a minute)........they also(unlike glacier) will fit about any other atv, in case you ever switch. They are very heavy duty, and give you the option(if you ever used it that much) to change the bottom thing that actually does the scraping.
I would also advise against a winch, they seem to me to be too slow. They make them now a days really easy to pull up by hand.

huge mistake if you go with the 48". as BART323 said, when angled you won't even clear tire travel.
60" all the way for a Sportsman.
lanalder600 you don't mention what brand you are shoping. i owned a Moose Utilities plow. 60" straight and highway blade(higher on one side). the Moose is VERY heavy duty, strong, heavy, very reliable. i hammered both of my Moose plows for years and they have never failed. it's not a piece of lightweight, flimsy junk like found on the front of garden tractor snow plows.
plowing is fun........as long as nothing bends.
Moose in my mind, has it all in the heavy-duty plow market.

I got the glacier blade from polaris for my 700 EFI. I can't wait for the snow to fall, I have played with it in the driveway and god this is the easiest plow to get on and off. just 15 seconds to get either on or off. I got the 2.5ci warn winch to lift it up and down, plus during the summer I have the winch to pull myself out if needed. I went with the 60 inch blade cause if you go with the 48 or 54(some brands) you end up with your tires being wider than the plow and snow falls back onto your path when going forward.
you can go to www.rcsoffroad.com to get really great deals on warn plows and winches and they have awesome deals when you buy a warn winch/plow package. you can also email their customer service about a discount code, they will email you back with a discount coupon code for an additional $10 off your order.

This is really what i needed to hear, i really appreciate all of your replies.
Thanks for the input on the blade width as well.
People have been saying to go 48, but Ive always thought to go with the 60 to clear the tires etc.
Once again thanks for the replies, the more info the better for me.

I have the same setup as Silverbullet - purchased it online from Ronnies (forum advertiser) - took me less than an hour (by myself) to install the plates and what not) - its awesome. Goes on and off in seconds, seems very durable and well put together. I can't wait for the snow to fall either - hoping its a record amount year
Glacier with the 60" blade is the way to go.
