MIA - 2nd gear on raptor
#1
Yes, its the infamous 01 tranny. I've seen this tranny talked about before, but didn't pay close attention.
So, 2nd gear is gone. It's just not there anymore, the rest of gears are normal. What's the fix and what's the range in cost that I can expect to pay? I'm not sure if this is the same problem everyone else was talking about.
Any help will be great.
Thanx.

I called ripper and they have a deal where they send you a fully converted 02 tranny for $650 w/ $100 rebate if I send my old one back. Sounds good especially if you consider that the kit is $430 alone. Free freight too.
I think I'm gonna throw in a new piston, springs, and cam while I'm in there fixing this thing. Do you guys have a preferance or any good advise on this? I'm pretty sure it's a stage 2 cam kit. Ripper wants $440 for the kit.
How much more work needs to be done to turn this into a 727 or something like that. Bore it out and make it as bad as can be. I'm not a mechanic, I learn as I go so this may seem like a dumb question. Just making sure I get the most bang for the buck. Looks like I'm spending about a grand plus a bunch of beer for my buddy to help out. If I spend another ??? could I have a 727?? Any good contacts out there I can get?
Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated.

Jadaway2, you chose the right place Ripper, stick with that and you'll be fine.
For the 727 the cases need to be bored, the jug needs to be resleeved for a bigger cylinder etc. Your only talking 41 cc's for probably $500 or more than what you'll spend to get a 686.
Rippers kit includes what? Springs and cam? Piston also?

Springs and cam for the stage 2 should be around $300 or a little less. Don't skimp and not get all 3 shift forks for the conversion. Ripperracing should take good care of you. If they are out of something, try www.magnoliatractor.com and ask for Bob Cobb. They have killer prices as well.

Don't ride it the machine any more. You have pieces floating around your engine. There is a plastic gear behind the clutch basket that turns the oil pump (oiling the engine), it sits low and gets lunched easily by debris.
