Question about my new twist throttle
#1
I just install a Motion Pro Comp on my DS650. It only turns about 1/8 rotation from idle to full throttle. This doesn't seem correct. I'm positive that it is going stop to stop, down by the carburator. I would think this should rotate atleast a 1/4 rotation. What do think?

I believe they make twist throttles with different rotation ratios. A drag racer would use an 1/8 turn throttle, only 2 positions they use anyways, idle and full throttle! For obvious reason it would suck for anything but drag racing. You might want to check with the place you got it from is they have other options.

I made a visit to Motion Pro's website. Out of 5 "straight-pull" twist throttles that they make, this the second slowest. Here
I can only think of 3 possible reasons for this problem:
1. The ratio at the throttle body is a lot different on the DS650 vs other ATVs? (Probably)
2. I installed it wrong, even though it turns freely? (Unlikely)
3. My quad's previous owner modified the throttle body? (Very unlikely)
I know others on this forum have installed this same throttle. Please let me know how yours works.

I run the vortex on mine and it's a little over a 1/4 turn i would say. But i run the duel carbs not the stock carb. If you think about it the stock thumb throttle doesn't have much of a throw to it either. If it did you would have to have one very long thumb. lol If your runing the stock bsr carb this may be why your only getting a 1/8" turn. Maybe???

I have the motion pro which i bought from rocky mountain. I just went to the garage and checked i would say it has about 1/6 of a turn travel Which i find ok for trails ect no control problems.
i would think if you get used to it less is more as you can keep a better hold of the bike in the rough stuff if you have less wrist movment
but 1/8 does seem a bit stingy

thought ?
If you cant return it and want to give more turn you can simply file out the groove where the cable sits into in the white plastic cylinder part. (deeper groove = smaller radius = less cable moved ) I just remembered that i had to file mine out to clean it up as there were a few hang points making it sticky.

I was able to go out and ride for a few hours today. To my surprise, the twist throttle worked pretty good. The only time I had any problems was when I would try to shut it down, coming into a corner with braking bumps. I had to try to remember to grab the grip at a lower angle before apply throttle. This really helped me shut-off when I needed to. I also was surprised that I never got arm pump. I would get it on my motorcycle after not riding for a while.
I love how motorcycles and quads are so different, but yet both are a lot of fun.

I bought and never even took out of the box, a Motion Pro - Vortex - twist. It is for lightning fast throttle. Turn a little bit and you are wide open!
Whichever model you got dictates turn.
I will be listing mine w/grips on the for sale section. It would get me killed I am sure.
