Default 700 EFI rear driveshaft

On my unit the yoke that slips on the rear gear housing has a hole for a roll pin but there is no roll pin. If there is a hole in the rear housing input shaft for a roll pin then my yoke is on the shaft incorrectly as all I can see is splines through the hole. Can anyone verify if there is supposed to be a pin there or not? The yoke on the transmission output shaft has a pin.

Also the front c/v shafts have a lot of play where they leave the front gear housing. Has anyone else noted this?

This is on a 04.5 700 EFI with 20 hours on the machine.

Thanks.

I don't think you want a pin in both yokes, they may want the rear to float so no binding or excessive bearing loading occurs due to torque/frame flex etc.

Driveshaft has to float just like your truck has a slip yoke in the driveline.

Yes I thought about frame flex. It does make sense that it would need to move slightly. It is strange that they did not put a slip joint on that shaft as it would have made it possible to get the shaft out for u-joint replacement instead of having to move the rear gear housing.

Thanks for the responses. If any of you guys with 700's could check how tight your front drive axles are where they come out of the front gear housing I'd appreciate it. The amount of play in mine concerns me.

yeah...my front shafts are a sloppy sallly as well...they kind of remind me of an ungreased ranch abused ATV with a bizzilllion miles on it, except mine has 300 well maintained miles

Interesting crotchrocket69, I discovered this at my initial 20 hour service. They must be using a different system than earlier models. Thanks.

No, there is no roll pin for the rear u-joint and my front diff. seems loose as well, but no problems with my 04.5 700EFI so far, have over 700mi. on it.

Thanks for the responses. I checked with the dealer and they confirmed there is no roll pin on the back u-joint as it needs to allow for frame flex etc. Also the front gearbox is different now with male splines on the yokes going into a female splined "tube" in the gearbox. The play is where the male yoke goes into the tube. There is no play in the "tube" in the gearbox so it appears all is well, or at least normal.
