clutch wear

well i took this clutch apart it is a Comet clutch (off '01 rmk 600) and there is play between the spider and the outer clutch sheeve you know where the buttons are...well the buttons are worn down about 1/32 or a hair more.....the spider has play like i said so is that amount of button wear excepable????? thanks guys...i took it apart cus this is the second spring that it has broke...time to go with a round one instead of square...

well if your clutch is binding the you will need to replace the clutch .... My clutch was binding and it held my performance back alot .... if you look where your spider slides down see if there is any wear in there because if so your clutch is binding and thats not good

one more quesion, how do you get the spider off?/?? I mean i know that there is a jam nut on top a big one that takes a spanner wrench so i made a spanner and i just cant get it off....i've used heat a hammer and punch...nothin...is it left hand rotation or what?? any suggestions??? thanks...

Yep, unless you have the holding fixture and the right removal socket with a big breakover or something like that then you wont get it apart without breaking something. Everything is torqued down very tight. They have to be considering the amount of stress put on things.

I made my own spider & hold down tools took about an hour or so. The spider is really on there around 200 # torque here is some pics I went from to make mine.
