I was debating on getting a used 400ex. Would you recommend this? My price range is 3500. If there is any other quads out there that would suit my style of riding. It is mostly track and some trail. I know this is a common queston but i have spent countless hours looking at forums, but no luck they usually go off topic.

for 3500 you could get a good condition 400ex...however if you found a z/kfz 400 for 3500 i would go with the z or kfz because they come with a little bit more powerful engine and reverse...but either would put a smile on your face

p.s- engine power difference is only like 1 hp or so

 

i am also looking for one but i wouldn't get the 1999 year one because it wass their first year and i heard a a arm weld problem and the ltz s fram is supposily weak for the 2003 model

 

My brother got a used 400 Ex. It is an excellent quad all around. A little down on power as mentioned above but all around a great quad to get.

 

I got a used 03...It was a repo and sold on e-bay...granted, bits of it are(were) rough but, it has ran like crazy since I got it home... just runs better as I progress with my tinkering.... I would like to have reverse but, I do like the machine.....

Hey, but as far as buying a used 400ex...DEFINTLY!! i know a guy who baught three brand new ones, and i baught an 01 model, and he is jelous. Because mine is in great shape, i like fixing things up a little, put new plastic on it, and it's just as good as show room condition. Show room atv's dont last long.

Keep you eyes peeled! I got my 2002 TRX400EX with 10 hours on the engine never abused, raced, etc... including Sand Shark II padels on ITP Racing rims with **** for $3400 after taxes. He even threw in a brand new helmet and green sticker for 2 years! Look in your cycle trader that you get at a gas station or, ATVtraderonline.com, ATVtrader.com, and Ebaymotors.com, I got mine off Ebay and he was in my neighborhood! GL
