need help, got a 94 400L. bogs down up hills and at full throttle on flat. it doesnt do it all the time and doesnt matter if its cold or hot. when it does it up hills i can floor it and it barely stays running. i can let off the throttle and hit it again a few times and it takes back off. this quad is bone stock. plug looks good(brown) new filters, no air leaks, no carb pluggage. it acts like it is running out of gas or maybe flooding, i can smell gas like crazy sometimes when it does it up hill. when on flat i cant get over 40MPH. quad has great power out of the gate so i dont think the engine is worn. thanx for any help

 

Sounds like a carb float or needle out of adjustment. Sounds like the bowl is not filling up fast enough at wide open throttle.

 

Start with taking a compression test. Let us know. Then we can get closer to helping u

 

float is paralle with gasket surface and about what should the compression be?

 

about 110-120

 

compression chks out okay. would exhaust restctions cuase this? if so how would i chk

 

Is ur vent tube pinched at all. The float is working fine right ( it is not sticking) Did you check the compression when hot...Just for kicks disconnect the rev limiter

 

I had a similar problem as yours and found out that I was jetted was too rich. Was it running fine then all the sudden did it or did you change any jetting or clutch parts? My problem drove me crazy for months until I found out what was wrong. Mine was a combination of a bunch of things. Man it will drive you freaking crazy sometimes.

 

hmm, no float problems, but the rev limiter sounds promising where would i find it to disconnect it?
doesnt it only limit revs when in reverse?

 

Well on mine the purple and grey is disconnected. Just follow the harnes on down. I cant remember wich on
