This guy is clearing out his garage and is sellin a 1975 Merc 440 sled. Says everything works on it, minus the dash. He wants 250 CND, which would be about 180 AMD im guessing.
Anyone know anything about these sleds?? I want it becuase iv never scene even such an older sled go for that cheap around here[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

Go for it, last winter, I borrowed my friends yamaha 440 and used it for ice dragging, and those things rip! I took out my friends 500 sled with it, and I was doing 98mph, according to the speedo.

Oh i know those 440's can go.. my buddys 440 cat sno pro puts out over 100 hp..but is setup for racing snocross.. Im just wondering how the whole machine would hold up. I guess with maintanence it would be good for a long time...

If it's that fast and modded, it would have to be a 75 Mercury TrailTwister, or if you're extremely lucky, the planets aligned, it's 75 SnoTwister. If it's an original of either, you could make tenfold of your investment by selling it.......

To calculate your Elan's speed, you'd have to figure in the general condition of the sled, as well as your weight. I would say if you are of average build, 45-55 mph is not impossible. My MotoSki Mirage is only 377 cc, twin carbs though, and it will pull the skis and goes fast enough to scare me.
