Default 400ex Head Pipe ?

Okay, i have an 04 400ex with a PC t-4 silencer. I am thinking about getting the header pipe. Do you think its worth the money, and do you think i will be able to tell a difference with the header pipe vs the stock head pipe? I have no motor work done to the bike except for jet changes and k&n filter with no lid. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

The stock headpipe will probably be all you need until you do motor mods.jmo

You should be able to see a difference. it wil give you about 2-4 hp, and it will hang better than stock.

Thanks for your input guys. But i think i will just grind out the welds on the inside of the stock header pipe for now, its free, and then once i get my 11.1 high compression piston and stage 1 hot cam then i will get the PC head pipe.

Has anyone grinded out the welds on the inside of the stock head pipe, and if so could you tell a difference? Was it worth the time and effort? Thanks again.

i couldn't notice a difference. if i was you, i wouldn't buy the PC header. i am not saying it is bad because i have never tried it. but, with the header being approximately the same size as stock, i can't see it making a huge difference. i have tried the sparks and full HMF pipes and they are both sweet. on a mildly built engine it will much much better than with a slip on/stock header with welds ground out. i would honestly just buy a new complete pipe.

Cals400ex thanks for the info, i dont think i will wast my time grinding the welds out of the head pipe. Does anyone have a PC head pipe, and how does is perform compaired to the stock unit. Also just woundering what's the best "complete" exhaust system that is made for the 400ex? Thanks.

Go ahead and grind out the welds on the stock head pipe. You will see about 1/2 hp gain. Got this info from GT thunder from a dino run that he did.

Thanks for the info. Is it really true that the PC head pipe and the stock head pipe are the same size? Also what is a good all around "complete" exhaust system for the 400ex?

the bends on the stock pipe and the PC may be different. however, the PC header fits all slip on silencers, including the stock silencer. it it may be bigger than the stock one in regions, but where the exhaust goes into the silencer it isn't bigger. there is no best exhaust probably. i wouldn't hesitate buying sparks, lrd, hmf, gt thunder, etc. all complete systems of course.
