hey guys, i was replacing my belt on the scrambler 500 04' and when i went to put the clutch cover back on i seen this wire hanging.. no idea where it goes or what it does. I found ONE connection that it LOOKS like it might go so i connected it but the other end is still hanging. it seems to run fine. the tube is about 6-8in long which seems to be a filter or something in the middle.

you say it has a filter on it? Is there any hoses disconnected from your airbox? Sounds like it might be your crankcase breather hose that connects to the airbox..

 

i dont know if its a filter or whatever. are you able to view the pic? dont quote me on this but underneath the gas tank someplace, there was a kind of box with stuff running to it and there was a open valve looking straight down. this is where i connected. its the only place i could fine. you thing the other end goes to the air box?

 

oh if it helps it didnt have any clamps on either end.

 

Ahh my friend! That is the bowl-overflow line. It connect onto the small piece that is on the bottom of your bowl. The other end just hangs there, to allow extra fuel to run out. They don't stay on that well so I took a cable tie and hooked mine to my idle screw line so I won't lose if it comes off. If you already put it back on, they your all set! No worries!

 

Well, it does look line an inline filter to me. The only inline filters that I am aware of on it are the fuel filter which goes from the petcock to the fuel pump, and the crankcase breather filter which goes from the airbox to oil tank, I believe. Not sure. There should be 2 hoses coming off the front of the airbox. I think one goes to the carb, and the other is the crankcase breather. Check to make sure both are there

 

You very well may be right one that. Although mine doesnt have that filter

 

thanks, but why does it have that thing in the middle of the line? a filter or something if its just an overflow??

 

its a one way valve so that gas can run out but water cant run up...

 

i had 1 of those on my stock carb it was a vent with a 1 way valve to let fuel out and nothing in
