I ended up buying a big-bear 2x4 400 2004. It was a leftover they had, so I got a good deal on it. I really like the quad so far. It goes everywhere I need it to and I haven't had any problems. What you really need to do is go ride the both of them, if you haven't already, I know its hard to make your decision in a few minutes, but you may find something you didn't like about one of them just by setting on it. Really it comes down to personal preference. Also, take all the time you need to be confednet on your decision, you dont want to regret your purchase. Good luck, and let us know what you get.

I was almost in the same boat as you getting my first quad. I was looking at the Rancher vs Bigbear. My blood is more blue than red.
IMO
Even though the Bruin is simular to the kodiak in looks the price is not. If your looking at Yamaha a little harder than Honda then dont discount looking at the bigbear which should be the next price bracket up from the bruin. Just think with the money you save not buying the rancher you can get 4x4 on the bear.....
Good luck! Dont forget your first decision is right one......

I recommend the rancher. Mine is great. Several problems Ive had, most user error. A stick broke through a wire. Enough said. My carb gummed up after sitting for several months (my only real complaint). Once I used a carb cleaner it ran great. Then there was that time when I jumped it way to high and on the landing the diff. smashed the battery box, user error. Ive had mine for about 3 and half years.

I would buy a Rancher 350 over the Bruin. The Rancher is a darn good machine. If you were considering the 4x4 models then I'd lean a little towards the Bruin because of the switchable 4 wheel drive. But because you're looking at the 2 wheel drive models, buy a Rancher.
