Heard a rumor at our local Honda dealer this morning!

Stopped in to the local Honda dealer this morning to get some provisions and I got to talking with the owner about what Honda was going to do as far a new Sport quad to compete with the bigger cc bikes and he had a pretty interesting response. The Honda rep for our area told him that he wasn't sure when but that a new bad *** machine was sure to happen soon, but the motor they were going to use was the best part. They have stopped production on the CR500 but they're still making the motors, hence the rep was implying that Honda was contemplating a 500cc 2 stroke in limited run to begin with but potentially a full scale production model. I'm not pulling your leg this is what the owner of our local dealership told me.

If they have ceased production of the CR500 2 stroke it is because the CR500 4 stroke will definitly be announced next Thursday. I just put money down on the bike and the quad today. You aren't gonna see a CR500 2 stroke engine in a quad frame. The vibration would shake your arms off. Bet on the 650ex but if they put the 500 4 stroke engine in a trx frame we'll all have a Merry Christmas!

sorry guys it aint happening. 2-strokes are on there way out. in 2001 the sale of two-strokes is banned in California, and other states will follow. anything honda comes out with now will be a four-stroke. 2001 is polaris last year for 2-strokes.
the tree-huggers would have a big fit if honda came out with a 500cc 2-stroke. isnt that the same type engine that was in the quadizzla??

Just think of how many thousands of cars are on the road for every ONE ATV being ridden at any given time. What is the ratio of car exhaust (volumetrically speaking) to ATV exhaust, maybe 10,000:1? And yet the tree huggers won't let us have 2-strokes anymore?!? I personally would rather own a 4-stroke anyways, but dang I'd hate to see the 2-strokes go, they are awesome machines.

Two strokes aren't exactly banned here, nor will they be. We license off-road machines here and we always had the "green" sticker for strictly off-road quads/motorcycles. We now have the green and also the "blue" sticker. Blue means you can't ride your 2 stroke in an area that is especially smoggy in the summer. Hmmmmmmmm. Glamis is like 120 degrees in the summer. So are most of our southern deserts. So, you can still ride in the mountains and go to the desert in the winter! Cool!
