Our Rubicon is 4 yrs old and has 5000 miles on it. Just about every time we go out someone makes the comment, "braking in the new ATV". When you look close you can see all the scrapes, deep scrapes in the black fenders, and the damage to the edges of the rims.
I wash it with a mitt and Mothers Car Wash Soap every time we use it, and wash inside the wheel-wells, tires and wheels, and engine with Castro Super Clean diluted it about 1/4 cleaner and 3/4 water and a long haired brush. Then I lightly blow dry the instrument pod, throttle and controls, and all around the lights with compressed air and then towel dry it. Every 3-4 times I wash I do all the plastic with Armor All and a tire dressing on the tires. The aluminum wheels shine like new and so does all the plastic.
From 10 ft away it looks brand new (and being a Honda it runs like brand new).

One of my friends has a kawasaki atv about three years old and barely scratched anywhere on it. I asked him how he kept it looking so good and not scratched. He said he bought a small electric pressure washer and always knocked all the mud and dirt off with it before touching it with a wash mit or cloth. Dirt gets caught in the cloth or mit or sponge or whatever and scratches as you wash away the the grime. I know my godsons sportrax, which is red, was scratched all over after about three or four washings..really disgusting. When I bought my Foreman a couple of months back I also went by Lowes the next weekend and bought a pressure washer. I always use it first to knock the loose mud off. then I soak it with soap and water sollution on low pressure and let it sit a minute or two. Then hit it again with the pressure washer. Sometimes never have to touch it with a wash brush or mit. The scratches are minumum and I usually submerge it at least once or twice to the top of the fenders in mudholes every weekend. The pressure washer really helps keep down scratches I believe. I also use a soft carwash brush that was ordered at the local auto parts store. It doesnt hold dirt and gritt like a sponge or mit does..well worth the investment. I think it was about 15 bucks.
