Default Question for DS650 Duners

Have any of you who dune your DS 650 ever figured out how many miles you can go before you need to switch to reserve, and then how many more before you run out? I am planning a trip to Glamis in January, and I am trying to figure out if I will need to carry extra gas, so this would be really useful to know. I can use the trip meter on my GPS to keep track of my mileage. I have an all stock bike except for a MrHp end cap, K&N air filter, and 15 tooth front sprocket. Thanks for your help.

Default Question for DS650 Duners

Depends on how much you dune vs. how much you are at W.O.T.

My 760 made it from Gordon's Well to Boardmanville (I filled up there but, didn't need to) then back to Gordon's Well.
If you dune a lot on that ride you may have issues but, otherwise you'll be fine.

You'll get hungry before you'll need fuel. . . Fill up after eating breakfast. . . go out until lunch then when you come back fill up again. . . go out until dinner (be sure to catch the flat drags at Gecko Road - then when you come back you'll be fine.

Without a modified bike, you may be able to go all day. I've never pushed it that far. Cool thing about the GPS is you can find the quickest way back to camp. Unless your down on the Sand Hwy you should be able to get back to camp on reserve. just don't dune a bunch on the ride back.

thats what I do. seems to be around a half tank by lunch time. I think I could go all day. I have hit reserve one time. only had to go a few miles back to the trailer.

Default Question for DS650 Duners

Over new years we went from wash #11 camp to half way to olds hill. turned around went back to camp. then headed for china wall (didn't know how to get there ended up at wall #18) then got directions to china wall finally found it. Draged it for a while. then headed back to camp. Never hit reserve. A 250r 3 wheeler that was with us went on reserve at China wall.

Default Question for DS650 Duners

I have similar mods on my DS and I ride at Armagosa. The dunes are very steep there. 2 of us on 04 X's rode for 5 hours and with the hills that steep we were wide open most of the time. We had a bunch of small rests through the day. Our friend was on his predator 500 and had his tank set on reserve(oops).....when he ran out, we went on reserve. So if you have a predator riding with you, your all set...ha ha ha. The DS has a large reserve. I would guess is close to 1 gallon! I found that out on a long distance desert ride.
