It will idle at around 1150 for about 10 seconds then it just dies. The engine is warm. The throttle lever free play is correct. Any ideas what to look for? Thanks.

Are you turning? The choke cable can get caught inside of the POD and when you turn its turns on the choke alittle.

Chris,
Thanks for the suggestion. No, the wheel is straight. I'll check the routing of the cable.

Also you may want to check the fuel vent line ... does it die faster if you get it gas?

You may also want to look at your throlle cable ... it could be to tight and the auto shut off is kicking in or this may be happening...

Thanks Chris. I was aware of the throttle cable and spark plug cable issue on the 2004.5 and it was the first thing I took care of when I got it home from the dealer. The first day I got it and I had posted about it not idling at all, so the fix was to adjust the cable at the handlebar adjustment area. It had a ton of play and when I let off the thumb it stalled right away. I then tightened it to the right amount of freeplay and it was ok. So, it is adjusted properly. Thanks.

1150 rpm seems a bit low for a single cylinder. Is this what is called for?
Vacumn leak anywhere?

Mine is doing the same thing. If I let off the throttle long enough to switch from forward to reverse. The thing croaks. Could it be taht the SP500's are jetted for 40F temps? I was running in single digits while I was plowing snow. Maybe the mixture was too lean to Idle at that temp. I know my sled makes much better power at lower temps when the air is denser. If I kept hitting the throttle It wouldnt stall out. Might just be that the 500 needs EFI!

There are No vacuum leaks. The vent tubes are clear. I checked over the entire quad including all the major nuts and bolts. I do this whenever I get a new machine. I like to make sure everything is routed correctly and all the bolts are snug.

mine would idle for a bit then slowly die down and quit. My problem was the air mixture screw on the bottom of the carb, my dealer drilled the plug out and reset it but they were still a bit off so I built a tool to adjust it and did it myself and now it runs great.
