50 MPH into a tree... lost rear housing?
#1
Hi all...
I have a 2003 kawasaki praire 360 4x4
heres what happened... I was letting a friend ride (Stupid stupid me)
He went full speed over an ice patch, slide sideways and right rear tire jammed a tree.
the housing that holds up the single rear shock was damage and fell off the mounts, therefore the drive shaft fell off too..
now the rear brake is all a mess cause the rear diff is just dangling off the shock absorber...
anyway Im wondering how much the dealer would get for this... just a really rough idea... so i can decide weather or not i want to sell my friend the bike or get it to the dealer and make him pay for it..
i just hate fixing something that has been hurt this bad because I have a feeling other parts of the machine were stressed.
Thanks! Ken

my brother is just replacing the swingarm, bearings, seals , parts came to like 600$, double the price for a dealer's labor, if the wetbrake is no good or the shock, your looking at a pretty penny, i would say sell.sorry this is for a prairie 650 though, but i think some of the components are the same.

Frame looks fine at a glance...
I assume if the housing broke then the frame didnt get much stress (or so i hope)
Well regardless this is annoying and im not going to do it myself so i guess im looking at over 1K
damn... for that i should try to get my friend to buy the bike off me...
well i learned a valuble lesson anyway... dont let friends use my stuff even if they are going to pay for it... its still a hassle!!

Maybe your friend will buy you a replacement 360 and take the wreck to rebuild for himself. Who knows, he may even let you borrow it after he gets it fixed up!

Nothing outstanding in the way of extra stuff, I modified the lower A-arms to beef them up for using the plow, extended the rear hitch to make the mower trail better, added a winch, rear cargo box, couple of electrical outlets for front and rear mounted sprayers, some fender bags and a home made rack to carry a Hy-lift and fence repair stuff. I put some insulation on the bottom of the fuel tank to prevent vapor lock and shoved a 12 gauge shell over the throttle as an extender. My quad is used mostly for work around the farm but it's also a lot of fun to run around on.
One of the best things I have done is add a two way valve and fittings to allow hooking a boat tank into the fuel system for more range. Simple to do and a good way to carry extra fuel and keep it clean. Another really handy thing is the little Honda eI-2000 generator. It, a sawsall, drill and electric nail gun and I'm a fence fixin machine.
I am going to order a set of heated grips and handlebar mittens as well as a windshield from Cabela's this week. Too dang cold on these old bones when it gets down in the teens.
