Default Grizzly 660 or Kodiak 450

My dad is getting a new fourwheeler. His choices are either the 2005 Grizzly 660 or the 2005 Kodiak 450. He needs some help deciding what to get. Please let us know of the pros and cons of each vehicle. Also how are they own acceleration since me or him never drove a fully automativ atv. And if anyone knows the top speed or what they think the top speed of the quads would be let us know.

My uncle has a 2005 kodiak 450 and the top speed is around 52-55 but i would go with the grizzly it has more power more speed and is alot more capable in really deep mud.so i mean either one would be very nice but if you are thinking about a good mud machine the kodiak is a nice one becasue it is more light than the grizzly.i say the kodiak would be good.and the acceleration is really good on both.

If money is no object then remeber that there is no replacement for displacement.

The 2005 Kodiak 450 gained weight with the IRS, and now only weighs something like 9 lbs less than the Grizzly 660.

We have gone from having three Grizzlys in our garage, to having none. But we always seem to have one Kodiak in the garage, and we have a 2005 Kodiak 450 now. The Kodiak is the best you can get for a mid-sized 4x4 ATV, and perhaps that is why we still have one, because it works very well at what it is intended for (a mid-sized easy to manage, maneuverable ATV, that will conquer the most extreme terrain you care to throw at it). The Grizzly is no longer the baddest big bore on the block though, so if you want speed and power you can get more of it with other ATVs.

Perhaps a better question would be "mid-size ATV or full size ATV?" And if the answer is "mid-size", then by all means get the Kodiak 450.

I must say that you cant go wrong choosing Yamaha.

I think the comment of fullsize or midsize must be addressed first. I like the Kodiak better for an all around ATV. I still think if I know what I know now I would got the Kodiak instead of my bigbear. But if I were in your shoes at this point in time I would wait until the 2006 models come out. I think they should be out in midsummer. If you can wait that long you may get the best of both worlds. You could see the Kodiak with the 660cc and possible griz with nice new monster bore (hypothetical ofcource). In that case I would choose the Kodiak still. If that were to happen my bigbear would be sold today and my sights would be on the Kodiak.

Good Luck

Yeah how deep are your pockets when only a couple hundred is a grand? My buddy has a 03 grizz with 27 589's and all he has done is installed a clutch kit, it now pulls wheelies with a tug of the bars. How much is enough?
