water pump seal visualization
#3
I tried everything to get ahold of AZsand. I got his cell number from duneme but never was able to reach him. I am talking with all my patients now trying to find someone who is going to pheonix to bring it down. No luck. I am going to visualize the waterpump seal on thursday to see if therre are any problems. I am hoping that is the issue. I kind of think it is because there is no loss of power, I lost a quart of oil and no loss through the blowby or the exhaust. the oil was milky and the coolant kept pressurizing. I would think if it was a head gasket there would be some other signs. I may be hoping.

Crackerjack:
When my water pump went I never noticed a drip in the weep hole but, it went right into the oil
It got to the point where I was filling up the coolant res. after every ride. I wasn't losing oil though so when you say you are losing oil that just raises a question in me.
I'ld get the re-build kit from BMW since they put the impeller on the shaft (from what I'm told - not 100% sure). Getting the impeller on the new shaft wasn't easy. Do be sure to get a new shaft since they typically get warn and that will only make the problem come back. Make sure you get two seals, one for the oil side and one for the water side. Put the quad up on its side like you do when you pull the clutch cover and you shouldn't have to change the oil or anything. Give me a call if I can help any further. . . I've only done it once so, I may not be too much help.

I had the exact opposite on one of my quads. I had a leak from the weep hole but never saw milky oil or oil in my coolant. I got all of the parts ready to change it and it seemed to reseal itself because the leak went away and I keep checking the oil and coolant and they seem normal.
Duneme, my friend tac welded the shifter and everything was fine for the trip to pismo over new years. We had sunshine and only about 10% of normal people there...

dirt and grit goes up the wheephole and causes the wear on the seals and shaft.
everybody that loses a pump seal and shaft should drill and tap the wheephole for a tiny hose barb - 4mm threads or something close in american size, and install a loop of vinyl tubing on it to keep future grit out. do this while you still have the clutch cover off, before installing the new seals. don't forget to lube the new seals and shaft properly. this mod will preserve the function of the wheephole but prevent future failure.
I lost my stock seals and shaft in less than 100 hours, had lots of sand and **** up the wheephole, and its been over 3 years and many hundreds of hours since with the above mod in place and still holding great. I posted about it at that time, a long long time ago, and many had made the mod since with good success.
These bikes should come from Bomb with this addition, then nobody would ever lose the seals in the 1st place.
