Hi all. I have a 96 banshee with a 13 tooth front sprocket and I just bought a new RK X-ring chain on it. Well, the stock is 104 links. I tried installing it at 104 links, and adjusted the adjuster as tightI could, and it was still way too loose. So I took a link out, now at 103, and loosened the adjuster as much as I could. Now it's way too tight. It has a slight bit of play in it, but not much at all. Will it stretch quickly? I would think this would be not too good? Is it that dangerous? You help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Jason

Too tight a chain can snap by the flexing of the swing arm and your weight.

Well lets see... you could have serious wear problems on the counter shaft itself and may cause it to bend. The added stress on the bearing inside the case might do some damage... you do know that you should adjust the chain when your sitting on it with the suspension bottomed out. 1" of up and down play is about right.

So, will the new chain stretch fairly quickly?

how much play do you have in it now. If it has no play what so ever than it is too tight. If it is between 3/4 to an inch of play then it will stretch fine the first ride.

It won't stretch as quickly as the possible damage to sprockets & the previously- mentioned countershaft & bearings .Why can't you add a 1/2 link to the chain?

It has like, 1/4 of an inch moving upward. Next to none if you try to move it down.

Thanks,

Jason

Try to grind the splice to move your housing more to the front, I had the same probleme and done that on my 99 Banshee.
