Found a good deal on Recons
#1
Found what I think is a good deal on 2 Honda Recons and was wondering what others are pying for used ATV's.
First one is a 2001 dark green foot shift and the other is a 2003 yellow electric shift. Both adult (40's) ridden on occassional weekends and oil change service records from dealer. Both appear in exceptional shape (like new). The couple selling them are asking $3000 for the pair.
Good deal or not?

Do they have the original Goodyear tires on them? If so, how much tread is left. If not, they may have a lot of miles on them. Check the foot pegs, foot shifter and brake pedal to see if the paint is worn off. Also look at the little skid bar below the motor and the frame to see if it's beat. Just to get an idea how they were ridden. Remember that older people tend to have kids and grandchildren that also ride their atv's. Even though they might paint a nice picture of two older people riding slowly down a trail.
You can check the values at NADA and/or KBB.
The price doesn't seem too high. Say $2000. for the 2003 and $1000 for the 2001. If they need tires, you can add at least a few hundred per quad.
Look them over good. One might be in great shape and the other might need motor work, tires or something. Get the fine toothed comb out.

I did not mention it earlier, but I know the couple very well and they are the only ones who ride them (no kids). Approximately 70 hours on the 2001 and 30 hours on the 2003. Paint on pegs looks fine. small scratches in skid plates on bottom and rear. They stated they paid extra to get a full skid underneith and one that covers the rear axle. They bought both of them new/original owners.
I have a 2001 Recon already, but would like extras for family members. Is there any problems with Honda ES system for shifting? I am only used to foot shift on my current Recon and automatic on my 2004 Kodiak 450.
Thanks for the replies so far. Will check KBB, although I was curiuos if anyone had bought a used Recon and the real world prices they seem to be paying.

I sold my 2001 Recon almost two years ago. I had a 2000# winch on it (cheaper model winch) and a Maire plastic skid on the bottom. At that time, I got a couple hundred above the current retail value of two years ago. In a way, the 2003 model would be close to the price I got two years ago. Since the 2003 model is now two years old. My 2001 was two years old when sold. The ES factor doesn't matter as much because retail prices were reduced sometime after 2001 and then recently raised with the new body style.
I think I got around $2700. for my foot shift model. If I remember correctly. My Recon had a lot of miles on it. It still had the original tires on it and they were done. It needed tires. I didn't do too bad considering how much it would have cost to put new tires on it. (At least two or three more hundred)

Where are the quads located? I'll buy them. I wouldn't mind having another Recon.

The KBB retail value of the 2001 is around $2165.
The KBB retail value of the 2003 ES is around $2460.
Most of the time, you can get anything below the retail values. So even if you take another $400. off each price. That leaves the value of $3825. for both quads. $3000. for both sounds good. It also depends on the area the quads are being sold. If there are a lot of Recon's available or even other brand quads. It may be harder to sell so people would be more likely to drop their price.

it all depends on the condition, Big beezy just put his 3rd set of tires on his 01 recon, there are probbly over 2500miles on it, and it still runs strong, its been crashed beaten and has missed some service appointments, its rock solid quad, you found a real nice deal.
