Default backfires in cold weather

Last night I took a trip and as I slowed down my scrambler backfired. Is this just due to the fuel ratio in the cold weather? It was COLD last night. If it is how can I adjust this? I am new to messing with the carb so please be specific on adjustments.

Thanks

Yep, its due to the colder temps. The idle circuit is too lean, for the temps, and that causes the pop on let off. use the pilot screw, and go about 1/4 to 1/2 turn richer, and it should also start and idle better in the cold too.
