Just pour a half-cup of gas (gas/oil premix) directly on the air filter, and it will start right up. That's how I start my blaster and banshee if they are cold and have been sitting for a while. Done it for years, no problem.

I don't ride a 2-stroke but a friend showed me how he starts his and this has worked for me (barring the motor being FUBARed anyways). Slowly kick the bike 3 times. You're not trying to start it, just priming the motor. Fourth kick you jump on it. Warm it up. Ride.

Its normal to take a while to warm up. While its warming up it will act a little funny, but thats normal.
Try turning your air screw in, or bump the pilot up one size.

The air screw is on the left hand side of the carb in the rear where the airbox attaches to it. It's a small screw that you need to screw in. It adjusts your fuel/air mix at a idle. Turn it in a little at a time until you find a spot that works good.
Jetting is what controls your air fuel mix. As you add mods to your bike you need to adjust the jetting, or as the tempature or elevation changes you also need to adjust it.
