Default Predator 50 CDI conversion recommended?

I read alot of back and forth on this topic.

As you all know the predator 50 is extremely mild in stock form. I've opened up the limiter screw and changed the cdi jumper setting but am still a bit disappointed in it's performance.

I am not looking to build a race quad. We ride trails and logging roads up here in the Pacific NW. Ocassionally we make a trip to the sanddunes but not often.

I am looking to make this a strong performer without sacrificing reliability.

I'm not bent on the most top end as much as good smooth power in the low and mid range. A little more speed would be welcomed.

I would really appreciate your advice on this matter.

I've also emailed Billy Holtz but have not yet heard back. I'll post his replies as they come.

Hi Rev CDI or not?

If so, which one works with the stock kill switch?

Drill the stock exhaust pipe or not. If so, is it alot louder than stock or just a bit different.

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here. I just like to be sure prior to making changes.

Thanks in advance.

.

A high rev CDI is only good if your engine needs to do "higher then factory" revs. For an engine to accomplish hi Revs, install a Clutch Kit. To get the max out of a clutch kit, should install a better pipe. If you upgrade the pipe and clutch then you should upgrade its air filter. This will dramatically reduce the air flow bottle necks at extreme high RPMs.

To obtain more bottom end to mid range power on a stock engine, change the sprockets (bigger on back, smaller on front) and upgrade the air filter. May have to re-jet its factory carb. This is a low cost solution for a stock engine. This method will lower its top end speed. To obtain "a little more" top end speed, install a high rev CDI.

Another option is to install a 70cc upgrade kit. If I remember correctly, this is a head and piston combination. May have to upgrade to a bigger carb as well. If you do this, your top end may run a little hot on your extreme hot / no wind trail rides. Thus, a cover and fan assumbly from a Pred-90 (or equivelant) should also be installed.

Or, you are looking at a combination of "all of the above". As a suggestion, contact a few of the mini-quad Performance Specialists and further research the best mods for your unique riding conditions.

Check your PM for a few Performance Dealer names I would contact.

Hope this helps....

Don't think there is a pipe out for the Pred 50 yet. High compression head, 20mm carb w Uni/K&N, reeds, cdi and clutch kit would the way to go.

Billy Holt has always treated me real good, but he does stay busy. Be patient. It'll be worth it!
