Which is better for trail riding 450r or z400? The trails i will b riding reverse is not really an issue neither is going up steep or rocky places it is all pretty clean roads where ican run pretty fast.

The 450 r is geared kinda high, so if that would be a problem go with the z400. Also the 450 doesn't have that little magic button.

theres not really any spot that im gonna have it lugged down creeping along most of it is just open logging roads theres a couple of hills but i dont think they will be a problem to get up. The electric start would be nice to have, but i have heard that the 450r starts with very few kicks.

Kind of off topic and I'm Honda Bias but an alternative to the two is the 400EX which is not that much slower than the Z400 and the 05 EX does have reverse and as always electric start I have heard in loads of forums that the EX is build better than the Z even though it doesn’t have the power, its pretty close. But between the Z and the R, I would defiantly go with the 450 R because... it would smoke it and the frames on R’s are much thicker and build stronger.

Off the showroom floor that sounds pretty good to me, but there is allways a better deal out there which leads to you kicking yourself for not finding before you just payed 200 more for

I pick the 400EX for slow semi-technical trails; the Z for more open trails; and the R for the fast, wide open stuff. The R is geared tall, and the engine has to be ridden revved out. On anything slow, you will be working the clutch more than you like.

I am a die hard Honda person, but the R is more race than trail. I think that if you want a trail quad get the Z and it will be what you want. With just a little work it will be right up there with the R. The Ex will take a 440 kit to get it up there. If you are waiting the R might have a starter on the new models, but when will they come out? they are all good quads, just what can you get the better deal on and what do you like. The "like" factor is the most important.
