Default Is there differences between 2003 & 2004

I purchased some aftermarket nurf bars that were supposed to fit all years DS650's
However they don't fit my 2004. The nurf bars hit the gusseting and don't all them to move back
far enough to mate up with the pegs.
Is there a difference in the 2004 and the earlier models with regards to how they are gusseted ?

Whose nerf bars did you buy? Lots of people have had issues with certain types of aftermarket parts. I wont name any names, but you will probably have to do some cutting or bending to make them work. As far as I know, the frames haven't change between years.

I purchased them thru Wheeler.com. I've sent them several e-mails regarding the issue and have not gotten any response..

Well I wish people would name names, so the rest of us wouldn't waste our money purchasing a product that does not fit, and then have to fight tooth and nail with the company to get them to accept the item in return.

And about fifty people need to call IMS and tell them that their heelguads do not fit a 2004 (or 2005) DS 650. If enough people tell them this they may axtually pull their head out of their butt, and figure it out. I bought a set for my 2005 DS last May because they said they would fit; ... but they don't even come close to fitting, because the whole rear sub frame is different on 2004 and 2005 DS650s, and IMS heelguards bolt to the subframe. I returned the product EIGHT MONTHS AGO, and told them the design change with the DS occured in 2004, so their product would not fit a 2004 or a 2005 DS. Just two days ago I called them again to see if they had ever come out with a heelguad for a 2004 or 2005 DS650. They have not come out with a heelguard for a 2005 DS650 yet, but they say their heelguad will fit all years up to and including 2004. Sorry, that ain't happening, unless the owner of a 2004 DS650 wants to go to work with a cutting torch and welder to get the IMS heelguards to fit.

And since after eight months of waiting, it is beginning to look like IMS is NEVER going to make a heelguard for a new DS650, does anyone know if AC Pro Peg Nerfs will fit a 2004 or 2005 DS650, being as the AC heelguards do not bolt to the rear subframe?

Thanks.

I think to get the IMS heel guard to work you will need the IMS foot pegs or add spacers at foot pegs

I used the IMS footpegs (actually Roll Design pegs) when I tried to use their heelguards. Even with their footpegs there is no way their heelgaurd is going to bolt up to the rear subframe, unless you use a two inch long spacer, with a big offset jog in it, that effectively moves the bolt location by about two inches. Thats why I said you would need to get out the torch and welder, to build a custom bracket to get them even close to fitting.

Come on IMS, the new frame style DS has been out for two years now. Get with the program.

It's difficult to say. I did get one response from them. I had told them that the part number was NB-501 and it said Yamaha on the out side of the box. Their response was that the Yamaha and the DS650 use the same part number. I'm no rocket scientist but I am an Engineer and I would know if the nurf bars would fit or not. I did try to fit them up regardles of what the box said but there was no way it would fit.....All I want is to send them back and get a refund.....

BillDS650,
Yes they looked just like the ones on your web page. And that bolt that goes into the rear sub-frame is not in the same place on the 2004 and 2005 DS650s. It would take a complicated bracket that bolted to the sub-frame, and the heelguard could then bolt to that bracket. Or else you would need to cut, rotate, and extend the bar on the top of the heelguard, and also extend the mounting tab on the bar on the top of the heelguard, in order to get them to fit.

I think Scoundrel purchased a different brand, because he is talking about nerf bars instead of heelguards.

One more difference between 04 and 05 the rear sprocket bolts are smaller. They went from M12 too M10 the older sprocket mounting holes are too big.
