#1
hey guys i want to say thanx for the replies in this forum , im glad i found this site..my question now,, i have 2003 ds racer kn filter with airbox and hmf slip on ..no revbox...i am wondering my freind lives in coos bay oregon and has a ds 2001 he bought the aftermarket carb i believe its an electron and revbox ron woods and put a kn filter directly on the carb mouth ,, now bear with me.. he says the electron carb will fit thekn filter becuase the angle is diffrent from stock, he says if you put the kn filter on a stock carb it will rub the bottom of the seat and rub a hole in the kn filter..and he said he did not see a big diffrence in power when using the slip on kn filter ...ok now he also says that the electron carb was hassle and put the stocker back on ...my question is going somewhere i promise..now here is what i want to do , buy the carb from my friend and put the kn filter on the mouth of the carb ,i need someone who has done this mabe give me some insight here on this , i dont want to throw money out the window ..oh and last but not least i need to buy a revbox ,, how much does this really help ??? i found 1 on alba action for 99.99 becuase mine is a 03 racer or i gota buy a 299.99 box .. any info would be great thanx rj

Neither carb will work properly with a direct mounted filter. I'm a big fan of the lectron carb, just putting it on gives it huge gains. You will need to leave the stock intake boot and mount the k&n at the end of the boot as SAM stated. Wouldn't bother using the airbox unless you're going to going through alot of water & mud. Just make a bracket to hold your intake boot & filter. For more info on the lectron see hpresearch.net & talk to eric or randall - both very knowledgable.

I have run side by side direct mount air filter direct mount and in the box at about 4000' elevation and the difference was incredible!
I know there have been a lot of dyno runs and comparisons but, I just am having a tough time getting away from results I've seen first hand.
I haven't tried the new air intake so, maybe that's the key???
As for CDI's - First. . . remember the old rule. . . you get what you pay for!
Do a search for threads on CDI's - There is plenty already out there - no need to re-hash.
What kind of bike do you want to build? Don't expect a CDI and a carb to win the races. A good exhaust, CDI, and carb / air filter package should net you some really impressive HP gains but, a high compression piston and a set of more aggressive cams will allow you to blow the doors off you bolt-on buddies.
