Default Oil change in 2005 DS

I red the instruction manual. Take the oil plug on the bottom, remove oil filter. clean the oil filter compartment, replace it, replace the oil plug. Then fill with oil where the dipstick is located. I started to put one quart of oil and it backed up on me. Making a big mess. The oil won't come down to the engine. It stays in the reservoir. Did i miss something????? Please help..

Did you drain the oil out of the tank? if not, you need to do that, and clean the screen in the rubber line that runs to the bottom of the tank.

disconnect the oil line from the motor and drain the tank. I use a rag and my air nozzle in the filler neck to blow out all the oil from the tank. Just be careful when you remove the oil line as oil will poor out of it.

So it is not only to unscrew the drain plug on the bottom but also drain the oil canister in the front fork. Once I drain this oil from the oil canister. I fill it with clean oil again. My question is if the oil is going to back up on me like it did earlier or not?

Take the big black hose coming from your Oil resevoir loose were it attaches at the engine(clutch side) . The resevoir holds most of the OIL. then drain the engine oil( which you already did) and then change the filter. Your DS will hold just under 3 quarts.

PS> put ALOT of paper towels under the hose before taking it loose, OIL is going to spill everywhere.

Ok, let me get this straight. Drain the oil from the hose next to the clutch (messy). I was told that there is a screen in line that needs to be clean. But i don't know where is located. I already replace the oil filter and repalced the drain plug.

Now can I put the 3.3 quarts of oil in thru the filling/dip stick hole. It won't back up on me again.

Question, Once I fill the canister, the oil will go to the engine or I have to do another trick to it ???

Heck it had been ahile for me, so I was thinking a TAD under 3 quartz, but it could be a TAD over

The OIL screen that was mentioned it VERY important for quads a year old or older. Were the Big Black hose attaches the the OIL resevoir is a fitting. you unscrew that , and the OIL screen is attached to the fitting, and will pull out with the fitting. The sceen is very fine mesh, and over-time WILL gunk-up and starve the engine of oil. I know of 3-4 motors the lost cranks because of this screen being dirty. SO get into the habit of every third oil change cleaning this screen. OK? OK.

And to answer you other question, YES you can put in your oil after you have drained the OIL resevior, and the engine without any fear of OIl coming up on you.

PS. after you fiil the resevior back up, Start the engine. The RED oil light will stay on for about 5 seconds then go out. If it stays on longer than that , KILL the engine immediatley, and start it again.
