I have a 05 Grizzly 660 and I love it!!!! On the other hand I have a good fried who has a polaris sportsman 500 HO. I admit his has a smoother ride than my grizzly has but the grizzly beats it in every other catagory. My grizzly was a little top heavy until i put some itp c-series type 5 wheels and 26" Mudlites. Best purchase i have ever made for a quad. My grizzly is alot more stable than my buddies sportsman now. The sportsman 500 HO is a great quad but I wouldnt own one because of there dependability or lack there of. It seems like every time i go riding with a bunch of friends its always a polaris breaking down and i have to tow them back. The grizz has alot more power than the 500 HO, its faster, can pull more, has more ground clearance, it has a dependable motor, and overall is just a better quad plain and simple. The only good thing that the polaris 500 HO has is the suspension. The 500 HO is better for trail riding but the grizzly is a better mud machine because of more ground clearance and not to mention more power. The grizz is a lot more reliable than the 500 HO also.

this is not a fair compairison. put the griz up against the 7 or 800, and it evens out better. the 500 ho has nothing on the griz. cant outmud it. cant outrun it. cant out trail it. cant hang with the griz in any cadagory. now, the 800, thats a differant story!

Got a real good friend with a Grizzly 660, I like it when it's running. In the mud it's great. The only complaint is that he must have got a lemon. Out of every 5 rides, it breaks something at least 3 times. We don't baby the quads or anything but his just keeps nickle and diming him. Look at the front drive shafts, he's had to replace both and ended up going to a beefier setup.
As for the 500 ho, never ridden one

Buddy of mine has a 660Griz .. burns more oil than gas. Has had it in the shop numerous times. He's poisoned with it!
Also have a buddy with a 500HO who lost reverse 2 months after getting the quad. It was in the shop for 6 weeks getting fixed. Don't know if he's had any other problems, but a mutual friend of ours says that the 500HO can't keep with his Kodiak 400 in the woods ... has had to tow the HO back a few times on hunting expeditions.

I dont know how much ridin yall do but i have seen a polaris h.o. out do the grizz many times exspecially when it comes to going threw mud, and this is sore of a stupid forum if u want to compare then do it with the 700 sportsman then u can talk some trash but the grizz wont out perform it neither.

forgeting the grizzly 660 is lighter, 160cc bigger, and has TRUE diff lock this is not fair at all. The 2006 660 grizzly is very impressive its untouchable in hillclimbing. The new 800s out there have more speed but the grizz is a climbing machine. I love our new 2010 500 ho but the grizz in my opinion is in a whole other class. I do love polaris's wide mud tires theye are equiped with as to the skinny dunlops yamaha gives.

My best friend has a 660 Grizzly, I ride his ATV all the time. The 660 defiantly has more get up and go. (42hp vs 35hp) I just do not like that the Grizzly needs a 3 step (diff lock) to have AWD while the sportsman is 2wd or AWD not 2wd,4wd then AWD.
