have you flipped it? That would put some oil in the filter. Or putting too much oil in.

If you do a lot of wheelies or stand it straight up while it is running, you will sometimes get a small amount of oil in the air box. The foam prefilter should catch it before it gets to the paper filter.

This is due to the fact that the crankcase breather is routed into your airbox...........

Scubba,
I bought an 03 and they neglected to mention that you cannot haul or store them straight up, without pinching off the oil breather tube from the engine to the airbox. I don't know about the 04 or 05, but I would guess they are the same. Anyway I hauled mine standing up one trip and I got about a half quart of engine oil in my airbox. It's because of the location of the tube on the case and that it runs rearward to the air box.
Also, make sure you are not overfilling the oil.
Once that engine oil is in your airbox it gets on the filter and eventually will clog the filter and shut you down. Also the engine is running on low oil at that time.

Has anyone removed the crankcase breather and replaced it with a stand alone like for a car?
