Default New Carter Go Kart

Hey everybody, I am new to this forum. I own a Yerf-Dog 3206 which I enjoy and I just purchased a Carter fx150IIr from my local Gander Mtn. store. It will be ready for pickup on thurs. Is there anything I need to know about this kart before I get started riding? I really can't wait. We have almost 12" of snow on the ground and my nephew ran my yerf into a tree sat. and bent the spindle so the yerf is garaged until I can get new spindles. No luck with customer service today. Well I hope I get lots of feedback about my new kart. I will be on this forum alot getting info and reading about all the great rides..

Welcome safor

I have a Carter GX125IIR which is basically the same cart with a little smaller displacement. Your cart is also very simalar to the Twister Hammerhead, and a few others, with cosmetics being the only major difference, the engines are almost the same. They are very very fun carts to own, I had a few problems with the original Carter I bought, but the company gave me another and thier customer service is excellent. So that I don't recreate the wheel, look for a long running thread on the twister hammerhead 150cc on this forum as it gives a ton of information on performance items and such. I own this cart and an Artic Cat 400i 2x4 Quad, and for the most part this cart will go anwhere, albiet slower, that the Arctic cat will go, I have even had mine in some pretty deep mud. The only complaint I have with it would be that when you do get into some deep mud, you will sitting in it as well. Congrats on the purchase, and have fun with it, just remember to change the oil as specified by the manual.

phantom, did you ever get an exhaust?

I just put on some 10" front wheels to help with clearance and aluminum wheels all the way around. Stock rear wheels were 30lbs, changed to aluminum rim and shaved 6lbs per rear wheel (12lbs of rotational weight), now if I had just got some decent lighter tires I think it would really have improved acceleration, or at least spin better in sandy creek bottoms!

I'll post some pics soon in my folder showing the fronts, they do make the cart look more manly

Oh yeah, congrats on the carter, I think you will like it, there customer service is great, it is where I have been ordering all my gaskets etc. After break-in I would switch to synthetic oil but all this is discussed in the other thread if you are interested.

Is yours green with the camo top?

I haven't bought the exhaust yet, I am, I just need some funds. My manual does show that the 125 and the 150 are the same engine, it even calls my motor a 150, so I am not concerned with it fitting now. What kind of wheels did you get? Can you send me the link, also, do you know how to adjust the brakes, mine seem to be dragging.

I heard somewhere that to bleed the brakes you need to raise the front end, this puts the master cylinder higher than the calipers. I haven't had any problems with my brakes dragging yet though. If it is just your rear, have you checked the parking brake adjustment?

the picture of the new wheels are in my picture folder to the left, just click on the camera.
they are itp t9, the thicker wheels. it kind of snowballed from just getting the front rims because I thought I was getting some free tires. well then I thought I better order some new rims for the back and then my tires fell through and I had to order those also. I will definetly have to bend the front fenders up for more clearance.

oh yeah, my crankcase even has 125 stamped on it, but it has been ground off

Man I am loving my new Talon. Did my first oil change with no problems. I don't know to much about engines so does anyone know were I can find a good repair manual for these types of engines? I have a six month warrenty from the store were I purchased the kart, which is only about a mile away from me but I would like to be able to take care of the small things myself. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah, what a difference between the carter and my old yerf-dog. I can actually steer this kart. No more pushing to get turned around for me..

I don't know of a repair manual as such for this engine, I think that Kell has posted a yerf-dog page that has some great info in it, the engine that is on this cart is basically the same as the howitt engine that is on some of the yerfs, maybe Kell can help point you in the right direction.

Go here:

Yerf Dog

You will have to join the forum to gain access to the files, I think the one
titled service manual is the one you want. It is just to large for me to download (5mb)
so I haven't done it yet.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it, reverse sure comes in handy on the trail!
you can read about my (and raptoraz's) yerf dog head conversion on my twister if you haven't already in the twister hammerhead 150cc topic.

I bought mine at gander and only got a 90 day warranty, but then again I believe carter has a better customer service.

thanks for the info. I downloaded the yerf manual. I am still waiting on my new spindles for my yerf-dog. They look pretty easy to change.
