Default 27" mudlites on an 04' 700/700EFI?

I am getting ready to order my 27 inch ITP mudlites on ITP type 6 wheels. I am still a bit nervous about it cause I have read alot of different posts about rubbing on tierods, fender flares or just rubbing on the plastic etc. I was planning on getting the 27-10-12's for the front and 27-12-12's for the rear but after reading of all the rubbing posts I have sort of decided to go with the 27-9-12's for the front. Does anyone with a 2004 700EFI have the 27" mudlites with the ITP wheels(type 5 or 6) and if so what problems/likes/dislikes have you come across and what sizes are you running-the 9's or 10's. My question is for 2004 700/700EFI owners only, this way I stay clear on the results. thank you

I have put 26 x 9" Mudlites on mine with ITP wheels and have about 1" clearence between the tire and tie rod end. With the factory wheels I use a 1" spacer on the front.

I have some pics posted.

I have the 2005, so not an expert on the '04 and earlier machines, but definitely go with the 27x9-12's in the front....I have them on my '05 and they are WIDE....I'm running 27x12-12 on the rear.

Some people don't need spacers on their 27x9-12's on the front, but I wouldn't guarantee it. You can always order and if you need, then get the spacers. I believe you can also order and slight offset wheel.

BTW, I'm running 5C's on both my sets, I have 27" 589s and 27" Mud Lites on 5C's..

thanks, still hoping for more detailed info. I would hate to spend the money for the setup and then have a problem, I am picking up the two sets of front coil spring spacers tonight which I hope will help with the front end sag mostly due to having the plow on the front but I am wondering if I will have to put a 1 inch suspension lift on the quad to accommodate the 27's. Hey 67bullet, even with the factory wheels and 1 inch spacers do you have any problems with the 26's. do you have the 26" mudlites on both yours and your wifes?

Does anyone out there have a 2004 700/700EFI with the 27" Mudlites on ITP type 5 or 6 wheels? this is the setup I am hoping to get and would like feedback from an owner with the same model as I have with the same setup I am looking to put on my quad.

Hi Silverbullet....

You're looking for info from a 2004 700 owner? Well you got one. Your selection and mine are dang neer identical except for tire choice, but the sizes are them same....

My set up: 2004.5 700 carb. ITP 589, 27x9-12 front. ITP 589, 27x11-12 rear. Wheels are ITP Type 5.

FRONT:

27's up front with stock springs is NOT going to work due to massive fender rub during a turn with the suspension flexed approx. 50% of it's travel. The little rubber donuts from Polaris are going to do NOTHING for you. They only provide additional spring rate for loading. NOTHING more. You need to lift your front end 1" or better to prevent fender issues. The proof positive cure is 1.5" to 2" aluminum spring spacers from
Bert's Dirt Works At their site, look under lift kits. This kit I speak of is of Bert's design and manufacture. High quality work and materials and for about twice with those little rubber donuts cost you. You only need the front kit. Install the spacers below the springs on the strut housings, reassemble and you're good to go. With a 2" kit on my 2004.5 700 carb, 27x9-12's on ITP wheels fit without ANY rubbing what so every. There's even enough room for you to go with 28's if you want in the future. I know this because I did it with 28x9x12 589's.

REAR:

Nothing needed at all. 26", 27" and 28" mounted on ITP wheels fit without any modification. How do I know? Again, because I've done it.

Silverbullet2005..... there may be people on this site that will disagree with my findings, or say there's a better way, or just say I'm full of _hit. That's the reason I'm not around here much. Backyard mechanics thinking they know more than a manfacturer. I get most of my design improvements/details from end users, but the personal attacks off this site are just a bit much. Sorry.... I digress...

You wanted to know what REALLY works, and there it is. Plain and simple. If you need more info, pics whatever... P.M. me or drop me an email.

Moosehunter I have the same tires you have that I just got from a friend that I wanted to mount on my stock rims. My fourwheeler is the same model and year as yours. What will it take to make this work on the stock rims? Thanks

Are you talking 27's or 28's?

Since all my aftermarket tire sets are all mounted on ITP wheels, I really have no experience with using the stockers. I do know, however, that ITP wheels have a different offset and back spacing measurement than the stock wheels. And to keep the tires from rubbing, you're going to have to install wheels spacers. Which I would personally tend to steer you away from. IMHO... I feel that wheel spacers put excessive stress on the hub assembly and make them more prone to failure. If spacers are the only option, I believe a minimum of 1" would be required. Perhaps even more. Give a call to the guys at Bert's (see the link in my last post) Those guys do wheel and tire swaps on a daily basis and could probably give you the specs for both the ITP wheels and stock wheels. You'll need to know both to determine the amount of back spacing (ie: wheel spacers) you're going to need.

We already know that ITP wheels with your tires do work. So you take the back spacing dimension from the stock wheel and subtract the back spacing dimension of the ITP wheel and the difference is what you'll need in wheel spacers. Basically what you'll need to add behind the stock wheel to duplicate the ITP wheel.

You could also use the search function on this site. Maybe you'll come up with better info than I can provide. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck with your project...

thank you Moosehunter, It's always a pleasure reading/receiving a post/reply from you. your comments are true and detailed and a bit easier to understand than most. I picked up my two sets of the polaris rubber spacers last night but have not tried them yet. I wanted those cause of the plow mostly, I will probably end up having to get the lift from Bert's Dirt Works which is ok. I may use one set of the rubbers and sell the other set to my cousin for his 04' 700 cause he is complaining of the nose dive as well. I guess I should just suck it up and get the damn wheels/tires and then order the lift and be done with it huh!
