I've been running a set of 20x10x10 10 paddle Extreme Haulers on my raptor for about a year now. They bite great out of the hole but it seems like when I hit 3rd gear either on a hill climb or flat drags that I am losing power and everyone else starts to gain on me. I'm very happy with the durability and performance, but I think I need a little less paddle.

I've got a stock bore build that is around 55hp (I think) and a +2 swingarm. My primary objective is to better my 300' sand drag times, but I also need something strong enough for the dunes and hill climbs in less than optimum areas with a lot of sugary sand. This was the original reason for the 10 paddles.

Basically I need to know this: Skat trak has the 21" back and I want a set of extremes. I cant decide b/w the 8 or 9 paddle. The sand drag track usually gets wetted down, but its still relatively soft sand, especially at the start. I've spent 2 hours searching and researching the topic, now I need some specialized input. 8 or 9 paddles guys?

I have to TTT all the time, but that's just me. I have 21 8 paddle extremes old style and they work great. I think anything over 8 will lose top end. I see some even going to 7 paddle, but I can only speak about the 8 paddle.

 

From what I understand the sand here is similar to that in Oregon, a little softer and more sugar-like, so you need an extra paddle or two to turn it. But like I said I'm mostly committed to 300' times.

I've kind of convinced myself on the 9 paddle, not wanting to under paddle for soft sand and really liking the holeshots I was getting with the 10 paddles. I figure the 21x12x8 inch tire will give me much better floatation and high enough rollout that I wont lose too much topend.

But any opinions I can get on the idea are very welcome.

 

I would think you need a 7 or 8 paddle set up. 10 paddles seem to be too much on a stock bore set up. jmo

 

I tell you what, we run a raptor with just exhaust pro flo kit and dyno jet kit, and we have tested all of the different size paddles and gearing, and hear is what we have found to be the best in Oregon for us. We run a 22x10 10 paddle hauler mounted on 10x8 rim, make sure you don't get the 10x10 rim, and we went down 1 tooth on the front and up one tooth on the back, anyways we run this with the mods i listed above and think it is a great combo!

 

I run the 22 x11 x8 -7 paddle haulers....Seems to be the hot ticket at the dunes ....hills and flats....The 8 inch wheel is important so the tire has some flex and stretch. My 2 cents.....Bumping a Yamaha thread....thats funny...Triple buffs would be the ideal ticket though...They are much lighter and will reduce the amount of rotating mass...as well as a aluminum sprocket and a lightweight brake rotor....Dump your o- ring chain and install a RK 520 roller....less drag...All these things will add up fast.

 

What gearing are you using by the way?

where is the best place to get some 7 paddle ul i want to get rid of my 10s and 12s and try the 7s
