has anyone used those wooden ramps that you can make with hardware that you purchase in a kit?

Thanks

Dont have any experience with the wooden ramps, but I noticed the question in your subject. I dont think there is even a chance. I have a 2000 Ford F-150 (regular bed) and I can not shut the tailgate with the Rubi in there with STOCK tires. It possibly could be done if you rode it in backwards? The Rubi has a lot of hangoff in the front. Mine is a 6.5 foot bed and I think the S10 is a 6 foot bed.

Are you talking about the aluminum ends that you would attach to a 2x12? If so Yes, They work great. Also your Rubicon may fit your S-10 but you will not be able to close the gate. Mine barely fits in our full sized Chevrolet short box. I can't close the gate either. It takes every inch front to back and side to side and then some. It's a very UN-easy feeling with out the tailgate closed.

I would not recommend letting the rear tires sit on the tailgate as the metal cables holding the gate are only crimped. You may want to make some new ones that take the tension off the factory ones, or back it in, the front is not so heavy.

I would recomend a trailer. I was very uneasy about having the gate down with it in my truck. That is $7000 pounds held in by tie-downs. I only did it twice and it was not far.

i have to haul my rancher in my 1998 s-10 with the tailgate down. i tie itin with two ratchet straps. one laced through the front rack the other laced through the back rack....it isn't going anywhere unless BOTH straps break and/or BOTH racks break off the frame....

also my rancher BARLEY fits between the fenderwells. I also have a bedliner so this takes about an inch away from the width between the fenerwells. My tires are stock for now. I suspect the Rubicon is an inch or more wider so you may have to run over top of the federwells. If so BE VERY CAREFULL!!!!!!! i have seen more than one s-10 with the back window busted out by the front bumper of a quad!!!!

good luck

O.K., everybody, get out your tape measures. Overall width of a stock Rubi is listed at 46.6". The length is 81.6". I have 12" wide Mudrunners on the back of mine, and it fits in the back of my Silverado Sportside with about an inch to spare on each side (maybe a little less). It lacks about 2 inches of being able to close the tailgate. A couple of heavy duty ratchet tiedowns, and that thing doesn't budge an inch. As for the ramp kits...yes they work fine. I highly recommend attaching some kind of traction strips to keep you from spinning out, and possibly off, the side. Old shingles work well.

when i take my friends 99' kodiak I can get the tailgate closed on my 90' toyota 4x4 if i slam the gate to compress the tires I usally leave the gate down, it will never fall out with the brake set as I am used to hauling dirtbikes and having one strap snap and the other one pulls the bike right over the side of the truck now that sucks

I have to drive over the wells in my 90 Ranger and the tailgate will close on the 7 foot bed.
