Default sportsman engagement?

2004.5 Sportsman 500h.o

When the belt engages how should it feel?? It may be hard to explain.

I have to give mine some gas to make it move. Is this normal?

Are the rpms high on this bike?

Thanks alot for the replies,

polarisman

On a level surface, you shouldn't really feel it engage. It should just start moving as you give it gas. Are you saying yours is like a snowmobile, where you give it gas and then it engages with a little jerk?

Well, I don't know enough to know how to fix it, but I do know that it shouldn't be doing that. Someone smarter than me should drop by soon.

How many miles are on your 500? If the belt get worn then it could cause the rpms to raise a little more than it should.

Sounds like a worn belt to me. However, did you buy this new? If you did, did it operate like that since new? What RPM's are you at when it first starts moving?

If its done it since you got it, bring it to the dealer and have them look at it or adjust it. It shouldnt do that.
